07' Cracked Bumper Lip

What can I do to fix a cracked bumper lip?

Drove over an unexpected obstacle at a shopping plaza parking lot with expected results: a crack on the bumper lip on the 90 degree bend by the wheel arch.

Took it to a company and was told that they would gladly replace the part with a factory-issued one for around $500 -money that unfortunately I don't have.

So I ended duct-taping the whole thing together, thus becoming my brother's laughingstock (and probably the whole neighborhood's).

People tell me that I should stick it back together with hot glue, but I'm so desperate that I've even searched eBay for a cheap non-factory substitute. I don't know what to do.

I would really appreciate any advice.

Some images of the carnage:

Your links would not open for me, but our attempted hot-glue repair to the front spoiler came apart after about 6 months. I'm going to have another go at it soon...this time with some metal reinforcement and some additional plastic melted into the separated joint.

SEARCH front spoiler lip here to see that topic.

PS: You can probably buy colored duct tape that will blend in... J/K, LOL.

Colored duct tape? LOL actually that's what my girlfriend suggested! Great minds think alike I guess.....

Anyway, I've read the other threads and now I think it's even harder than I originally thought. I was about to buy some epoxy and give it a go, but now I think such fix, if it holds at all, won't last too long.

I think I'll visit and/or phone some of the area's junkyards and hope that I can find a replacement.....

In any case thanks a lot for your advice!

I repaired my lip using sheet metal and rivets. The damage was on the bottom of the lip, so the repair is not noticeable. Before I had the time to repair it, I used duct tape as well. Lucky for me, my GD3 is SSM so regular colored duct tape blended well.

Sheet metal & rivets.... really? Is it still holding well?

The problem is, my lip's damaged right at the 90 degrees bend and all the way to the bottom. Wish I could explain this better but my pictures wouldn't load on this thread (right-clicking on the icon takes one to the Photobucket account though)

The problem is that there's little surface where to apply any possible adhesive, and I don't think I could use any other supporting materials on the inside of the lip to give it more strength.

Just don't let her talk you into the "Hello Kitty" pattern!

Duck Brand 1.88-inch By 10-yards Hello Kitty Duct Tape - Amazon.com

BUT SERIOUSLY,

I think the secret to a good repair is to take the stress out of that corner joint. So, on my next attempt, I'll be fussing with the metal mounting brackets underneath to make sure they hold the spoiler corner close to the body. THEN I'll use the glue and melted plastic, and maybe a piece of aluminum beer can as a bracket.

If you find a good spoiler at a junkyard, painting it will cost almost as much as a new, pre-painted spoiler from a dealer. The body shops always make you pay for the entire gallon of paint that they have to buy...plus flex additive and clearcoat. <SIGH>

Exactly, the idea would be to avoid stressing the corner joint. And, like mcbuddy said before, it´s probably for the best to add an extra layer of material for support, so the beer can idea is not bad.

Actually, a couple hours ago I found a T-boned little Fit online with an undamaged bumper, unfortunately in orange, and couldn't help it but think of what you said. And yeah, I would rather stay as far away from those shops as possible.

Hello Kitty or not, I'll have to stick to the tape for a while. But thanks a lot for your advice!
