07 Brake Replacement Questions
07 Brake Replacement Questions
Does anyone have the minimum thickness specs on the rear shoes and drums before required replacement?
Also, I haven't gotten underneath the car yet (need to get a new jack and stands), but I was wondering did the 07's come with a star wheel adjuster, or is that something I need to add on?
If I do need to add it, suggestions on locations would be awesome.
Just for FYI, my wife bought the car in 06 when they were first offered here in the US, it's got over 120k miles and this is the first time I am doing anything with the brakes. The front pads are squeaking so that's why I'm replacing them and spurred my thoughts for the rear shoes.

I'd pull the drums and look before you buy any replacement parts. Chances are that the shoes have plenty of material remaining.
There is a star wheel adjuster. I haven't had much luck adjusting it with the drums on...there is an access hole covered by a rubber plug.
Adjusting the rear shoes will do wonders for brake response and parking brake effectiveness. I've done it three times on our 90,000 mile Fit. The drum should turn freely with the parking brake OFF, and drag slightly with the PB handle one or two clicks up.
Don't forget to lubricate the spots where the shoes touch the backing plate. I just coat both sides of a thin piece of cardboard or sheet of plastic with brake grease, and shove it between the shoes and backer.

I do plan on taking a look at the shoes before replacing them, but I don't know the minimum thickness specs for the shoes, or the drum wall either.
Like I said, the cars got 120k on the original brakes. If I gotta replace the drums and shoes, I might as well do it all at one time.
I know there is a repair manual and a CD that the service techs get from the "factory" that has all the procedures and tolerances for maintenance, I just don't want to spend $65 on it if someone else already has access to it from work or something.
