Cracked/split strut please help!

Hello everyone,
Today I manage to install my springs successfully until I got to the last springs which was the front passenger side. I manage to crack the top portion of the strut, it looks like a minor crack because I had an Allen wrench in it and pressing it towards the ground while trying to twist the nut off so I can get my bump stoppers out. "The shocks kept spinning because I didn't know what else to do" I even used a vice grip on the shock part "chrome area" and it still kept spinning, it was a pain and I'm having no luck. So after stepping on it while the Allen wrench was in I somehow cracked it I didn't take a picture of it yet but if you look at this one I got from someone else on the forums. It looks like this but picture a crack/split inbetween the threads and the hole where you put the Allen wrench in.

I'm not sure what to do now because I still have to take the nut out to get to the bump stops. Please help

1. Do I have to get new shocks/struts?
2. Is there a better way to take out that damn nut without the shocks spinning "chrome part".
3. Use an air gun and force it out? But how am I going to install it, after putting on the new springs how will I be able to tighten the struts up top since the Allen wrench will keep spinning due to the crack/split.

Any help and suggestions would be greatly appreciated!
This is my first time installing springs please bare with me.

Thank you.

I think this section is fine.

Use an air gun to take that nut off. Go buy a cheap electric impact or rent one. From now on just use that don't fiddle with the Allen key.

I would just buy new front struts, I wouldn't mess with damaged ones unless someone has a good idea on how to safely repair it without compromising the strength of the shaft?
