Angry Sweet jebus, do i need a whole new door?

The woman just came home with this

Do i have to replace the entire passengers door? Or can I just find a front panel for it. Havent looked it over too much, just seen this photo. New mirror on ebay is around 60 bucks for non heated so thats not so bad. I'm just hoping I dont need to replace the entire door with window and all that.

It looks like the inner structure of the door is pretty screwed up and the whole thing looks like it'll be junk. My driver's door got deeply creased in a parking lot by an old Lincoln land yacht, but my body shop was able to re-skin and paint the door so that it still looks new. Good luck! Re-skinning and re-painting a door is not a DIY job. That is the reason for your insurance premiums, right??

Ahh, its a $1000 deductible up here in the frosty north.

What if i find a new door in a junk yard? I can swap out doors without anything being tooo hard right? Unless theres some hidden stuff in there that requires the jaws of life.

Found some doors at some junkyards around here!

Im wondering though, will a normal 2007 Fit door fit on my 2007 Sport?
Could I also get a 2008 door fitting on there?

Yes and yes. But that can be repaired by any competent auto body shop. But one from a junkyard will probably be cheaper and easier to replace.

+1 on the junk yard if u can find one.

if ur really desperate, there are salvaged doors for sale on yahoo auctions japan that are hella cheap. although, shipping would cost u. I don't think it would be "oversized" though technically, so it can come via EMS (cheaper).

And.. If you keep an eye out you can find one with the same color as yours so it's an easy two man job to swap doors complete. Unless your junk yard door comes with all the plastics and hardware be sure to tear everything off the smashed door before you remove it as it's easier to manipulate while attached. Then install replacement door.

Now.. How did this happen? What did she rub against?
Was the side skirt brought home?

I have some dings on my driver side door, much less damage than pictured in the OP's post, and the bodyshop told me I have to get a new door skin (if I want it done right). Insurance should cover it, I only have a $500 deductible, just got to find the time to drop her off when I wont be needing the car for a week till the work's done.

It was awhile ago. I do not recall having to pay deductible as was not my fault. Check with your insurer.

Where are you located in Canada eh?

Stuck in Calgary unfortuneately.

Actually it was the girlfriend that backed out of a parking space and splooged into a pillar. She wasnt going fast at all, so all the electronics still work, even the mirrors able to still move around.

Found a black 07 fit door at a junkyard today, got them down to 150. Got a a little curl on the bottom corner of the door, but hopefully they can bend that back. Hard to say no to $150, i'll try to document the process on here as i go.

This junkyard door has no window glass in it. I wont have any problem transferring my original window to this new door right?

Here you go. THis is for a GE but should be similar. When you pull that sheet of plastic off wear rubber gloves. It is on with a black sticky adhesive that gets all over everything.

doors are easy! Hardest part is aligning the door to the body and latch so that it functions smoothly and leaves no gaps!!

$150 is a great price for a door, even if a bit damaged.

Arrow

Boom just finished the operation! and i took pics
This is all done on an 07 Fit Sport.

Removing the door panel

Bust out your flathead screwdriver and pry off the panel under the armrest.

Unclip the wire for the power window (tab on bottom of the thing)

Size: 159.2 KB

Unscrew the 3 philips head screws in the armrest.

Size: 127.2 KB

Unscrew the screw holding the door lever

Size: 187.3 KB

Now its time to pry off that whole panel! If you have the Sport, you'll still have a wire clipped into the little tweeter speaker at top left. Keep that in mind, and disconnect it once the whole inside panel is unclipped.
I like to start where i can see a clip through a hole.

The door handle will still be clipped in place, so pry it gently until its loose. You can see the black clip in there.

Size: 178.7 KB

Now you can probably reach the tiny speaker cable to disconnect it, at the top left of the door.

Size: 163.5 KB

Slide the handle through its hole, and remove that inside panel.

Removing the glass window

I wanted to transfer over my tinted window to the new door, so i removed the glass. The trick is to lower the window to where the two screws holding the glass in place can be visible through special holes in the door. I removed the plastic sheet for this. Just splooge it back on later.

Youll have to plug your window cable back into the hole on the inner panel that you just removed to get the window in place. Just hold your inner panel up to the door and plug er in and move the window down until those two screws holding the bottom of the glass in place are visible through the special holes in the door. My window was about 2/3 rolled down.

Unscrew those bitches while somebody holds the top of the window. Slide it out through the top on a slight angle, easy peezy.

Disconnecting the door

All the cables from the door go through that middle rubber boot and plug in under the glove box on the right side. It would be just above the passengers right foot. Unclip the plastic cover to get to the cable and disconnect it. Theres also a little white clip in there thats a bitch to take off.

Now just unbolt the 3 points on the door. First is the bottom thing that keeps the door open at 3 positions. Then you undo the top hinge bolts and bottom hinge bolts.

Undo the top hinge and then bottom hinge. Boom, door should fall right off!

Do everything backwards with your new door and you should be golden!
I picked one up from a junkyard in good condition for $320.
I think im in love!

Adding the side mirror

I had to get a side mirror from a different junkyard since my door didnt come with one.
Make sure your inside door panel and plastic sheet are off.

Plop your new mirror through the 3 holes onthe car door.
Thread the wire through the door and plug er in.
You'll need to put 3 nuts around the bolts of the mirror to fasten it to the car.
Theres 3 holes just for that in the door. Fasten them on and youre good to go.
If you drop those bolts/wrench down into the depths of your car door, you'll have to remove the speaker to get to them. That thing pops right out too.

There you have it! I replaced my smashed door with a new one all for 400 bucks. All I needed was a couple wrenches, a screwdriver, and a second set of hands for holding new door in place. Saved me about 1500 from the garage, and the most i've done to my fit is change its oil. Meaning if I can do it, YOU CAN TOO.

Congrats. Well done.

Now all the black crap off the plastic sheet. It sure makes a mess on a white car. It comes off using your clay bar I found.

P.S. Did you take her key away?
