Cruise control won't stay on

2007 Fit Sport. When I push my main cruise switch, the indicator light comes on but goes off when I let go of the switch. The fuses are good and I swapped relays around and everything stays the same.
Is the cruise switch a momentary switch or is it supposed to stay physically latched, in which case the switch may be bad? I tried holding the switch down while driving and trying to set the cruise speed but it wouldn't take. If it is the switch, where can I buy one and how to I access it in the steering wheel? I found a few threads about this with no answers. I found a thread to a Fit manual but links were dead or porn. Thanks.

The cruise on/off switch is a latching switch—push it once to turn it on, push it again to turn it off. The set, resume, and cancel ones are momentary switches that spring back when you release them. If the main on/off switch isn't staying latched, that's probably your problem.

You could presumably buy a new one from any dealer or e.g. bernardiparts.com, but it might be cheaper to get one from a junk yard if you're so inclined. I don't know how to go about swapping it out; I suspect it would involve removing the steering wheel, which is not the simplest task in the world and involves removing the airbag unit. Make sure you understand how to do that part safely before attempting it; an airbag exploding in your face would make for a very bad (and expensive) day.

I think I recall someone else here having the same problem with the switch...don't remember who, but perhaps some searching could uncover the thread.

Part 36770-SLN-A01 $59.74 at Bernardi Parts

The spring inside the switch is probably worn out. I'd sell you my steering wheel, but my QR set-up isn't complete yet.

I experimented, while driving yesterday, by holding the cruise button down and then hit the set button and the cruise control took over, so that told me that the switch was not mechanically latching. Odd that it would fail, as I hardly ever use it. I am going to try and glue it in the depressed position and that will solve my problem till I can track down a new switch and someone to deal with the airbag. Thanks for the website address.
