Mystery sound from engine (2008)

Hi. For the past couple of years I've heard a metallic sound coming from my engine. 2 reputable auto mechanics (not actual Honda dealers) tried to figure it out, but they couldn't hear it. It is sporadic. It only happens when the Fit is in gear and is louder when I take my foot off the gas than when I have my foot on the gas. When the car is in neutral, no sound. It happens when the engine is warm and also cold.

I finally got smart and recorded it. It is most obvious at the 7 second mark and around 35 seconds

.

Thanks,
Brian

Have you checked the exhaust heat shields? I had one that had a corner rusted and rattling on my 2008 a few weeks ago. A large hose clamp rectified that situation.

Repeat the test at different gear position. If it is at the SAME speed the final drive may have problems. If it RPM dependent it is engine/ torque converter exhaust system related.

engine/exhaust noise

thanks for the info. It happens in various gears and at various speeds, although it seems to be most prevalent in 2nd/3rd gear. I moved the exhaust near the passenger door and it was noisy.
