Fit (repair) overhaul help

New member, have a 2008 auto fit sport (112k miles) that is no longer my daily driver.

Here are the issues; (I will edit and post pics tomorrow)
- brake pedal sinks to floor
- needs new brake pads
- rotors rusted
- front bumper is deeply scratched and is loosely attached to clips near fender(s) from hit and run
- driver mirror broken off (non-insured driver)
- needs (1) new tire

Notes;
- I need to fix this car up enough to get 2 to 4 grand, if possible.
- the "stuttering" / stalling that is common with this generation of the fit was fixed after I changed the coil packs.

Mainly I need to know if this amount of problems is worth fixing before selling, or selling as-is. Many people I know are suggesting selling as-is, but because of the body damage I'm getting low ball offers such as $1,200 and to me it's worth the money to fix it. I just need some advice.

I'm new to the world of Fits, but regarding the brake pedal, could be the master cylinder. Maybe a change of brake fluid would be a good starting place.

A very light hand sanding with a fine grit sandpaper would likely clean up your rotors. You can wrap the paper around a flat block of wood with a random motion if you want.

Other parts could probably be sourced from a junkyard, perhaps even a used tire.

I appreciate the response! It sounds to me like you're on my side more that with a little tlc it can be fixed up!

I didn't know that about the rotors either thanks!

Only this is I don't know how to bleed brakes although I'm guessing there is a diy in the forums on it.

Pads and rotors are an easy DIY. Get OEM ones from Bernardi parts or Rock Auto. The driver side mirror can be ordered in the exact color to match your factory paint (at least, that's how it was when I did mine a couple of years ago) and is also in the realm of DIY. I have done all these repairs with normal tools and some guidance from this forum. You should find threads on both of these topics for your first gen Fit.

A new mirror assembly should be around $200 (I paid $178). Bernardi has them for $189 in the Interior/Bumper category.

Regarding the pedal going to the floor, that could be more serious like a blown seal in the master cylinder. The first thing to check is that you don't have air in the brake system - do a full fluid replacement/bleed and change out the pads and rotors. Look for leakage on the caliper housing to see if you have a leaky caliper. If there's no leak and you still have a problem after doing a proper pad/rotor/bleed job, then my guess is that a seal in the master cylinder is gone. Seals are inexpensive to buy but you have to remove and disassemble the master cylinder to get at them.

For the Fit, it looks like you can get remanned cylinders too.
