2015 Fit sputtering and idle issues, any suggestions?

Hey guys, I have 2015 EX fit. lately Ive been having sputtering/idle issues when the car is stopped. Car seems to be running fine when its on the go. The car has about 35,xxx miles on it.

I have no CEL light on, atleast not yet. The idle is getting worse it seems, at times it feel like the car is gonna stall. I really cant afford to take this to a dealer ship, Im looking to buy the parts , do research and do the repairs myself. Any help would be appreciated. Im trying to narrow the problem down.

Thanks guys.

Clean the throttle body butterfly.

Check for vacume leaks.

battery cables tight?

Spark plugs look ok? Are they tight? (Been a problem on fits with them coming loose.)

Make sure all coil pack plugs are tight,

Thanks for the reply, I tightened the battery cables. I also pulled out all of the coilpacks checked for any visible damage, they looked fine. (I didnt pull them apart to check the fuse and springs, I didnt know you had to check that as well) . after doing all that I still feel a slight sputter.

Ill find the throttle body and MAF and check those. Im not really sure how to check for vacuum leaks

Im starting to think its not the coil packs, because wouldnt a misfire be more noticeable ? . it just sputters and the idle is all wonky when im stopped at a stop light, the car seems to idle fine when Its on park. Is it possible its the sparkplugs ?

If you're at 35k, aren't you still covered under the 36k warranty?

Alright boys, so far I replaced the spark plugs , I put on brand new coil plugs , changed the air filter . The car is getting great mpg . It helped for sure, but the idle issue is still there . It's definitely noticeable when the AC is cranked full blast .

Any more suggestion ? I'll try and narrow down a vacuume leak . But those are diffficult to find .

First of all if your car still has the warranty I'd have the dealer take a look at it.

Barring the dealer finding the problem here is my story.

My 07 Fit started skipping occasionally at about 100k at lower rpms (higher load conditions) with no CEL. I checked the coil packs and number four's tube looked like it was overheating. I replaced the pack and the occasional skip was still there.

I next performed the 100k service (new plugs (Denso SKJ20DR-M13), valve adjustment, etc) and replaced the other three packs and the skip was still there.

I brought it to the dealer, described the problem, and told them the skip was more frequent with the A/C on hoping they would catch the problem as it occurred connected to their diagnostic equipment. They didn't find any codes and told me the A/C compressor was the problem! I reminded them it happens with the A/C off too... They didn't have any answers and I didn't replace the compressor.

I read that people mentioned Hitachi and other name brand coil packs and I found mine were made by BWD and thought they may not have enough power to jump the .051 gap in the plugs every time. I was able to exchange the BWD packs for Hitachi packs and I haven't had a skip in the last few hundred miles. If the pack exchange was not possible I was going to go another set of plugs with a smaller gap.

Thanks FitFreak!

Car isn't covered by the warranty , I'm over 36k . The idle issue has gotten worse . I put it in reverse this morning and it almost died on me. It was also stuttering bad at a stop light .

Running out of options, there's no CEL, I feel like bringing it to a shop with no CEL would be a bad idea .

Where are you located? In the US, you can go to an auto parts store and they can pull codes. Even though there is no CEL, there might be codes that can help point you in the right direction.

Thanks for the reply , man I feel dumb I didn't even think about trying to pull the codes . I assumed since it had no CEL it wouldn't pull codes. I'll stop by an auto shop tonight and see if it scans any codes. I'll post the codes if it does pull any

Thanks again to everyone helping me figure this out.

I would HIGHLY recommend taking the car to the dealer especially if you are still within 36k or have a certified used car as well as make sure that you are using a Top Tier fuel.

For the 2015 model year there was a coil pack recall on most; if not, all of the models that year which your vehicle could be affected by. Check to see if this has been done first!
