Rattles- I'm winning!!! + DIY FIX
A mechanic at work said not to bother getting the dealer to fix my dash rattle(s) 1) drivers front left corner and 2) middle console behind vents because of winter.
How do i get the glove box out though? incase one day i go mad and wedge a golf grip into the vent gaps. I don't seem to see any latches or in my case, feel.
If someone would take a pic, that would be great.

Might have to try the rubber between the vents/firewall fix. My whole dash rattles over lightly bumpy roads now. Its in the 30s and 40s here now, but it was still rattling when it was in the 80s a few months ago, too. My AT has over 5000 miles on it and started rattling about 2000 miles ago.

If someone would tell me how to post pictures, I took them. I see the insert image thing, but I don't have a web address to host them... and I'm clueless.
Here's my best...

Anyway, assuming it did, you are looking at the left side of the glove box. The between the dash and the box side, you'll see a sliver of something- it's rubber. If you reach up over the top of the sides of the box and pull in, you will get these little rubber stoppers to pass the dash sides and the box opens up wide:

This next one is looking straight forward under the dash through the glove box hole- get your bearings...

Finally, looking the same direction but up, you'll see the club grip wedged up there. It's between the firewall and the duct, as I wrote before. The best orientation I could find was on this slight angle. You actually can see this if you stick your head in there with a small penlight or something.
Good luck.

Dashboard rattle
I bought my FIT in September of 2006. On February 23, 2007 I finally got my car into the dealer because the entire dashboard was creaking and rattling and basically driving me crazy.
The dealer initially said they were able to duplicate the noise early in the morning but once the day warmed up ( I live in Connecticut) the noise went away. They called me and informed me that no action was taken and I could come pick up the car.
Well, I picked up the car and quicky drove it around the block so I could confirm the noise. I drove back to the dealer and had the service manager come out and drive around the block with me. He definitely heard the noise and apoligized for it not being properly fixed.
In a nutshell they spent two days tearing things down and here's the documented fix: "Mileage 19,237. Dash has multiple creaks and rattles @ base of windshield and aroun the lower "A" pillar trip area and around the instrument visor area. Contacted Honda tech-line. Tech-line had no info in database on this issue. Removed instrument visor and guages and road tested. Still hear several noises @ base of windshield area. Removed entire dashboard assy and found no EPT foam on underside of dash panel @ firewall area. Also found two vent ducts on t he drivers side that were conacting each other creating creak type noise. Installed a strip of EPT foam between ducts, installed EPT foam along the entire firewall area over sound deadening foam and also put EPT foam on underside of dash panel and insulated dash board locating pins as they were also a source of noise. Reinstalled dashboard assy, installed wool felt around instrument panel bezel and around instrument visor assy. Also applied wool felt to base of the "A" pillar trim panels. Roadtested again...dash area silent."
My dash made a ton of noise, especially when it was in the 20's outside. Since the fix it is silent and a joy to drive again. Just wanted to give folks a heads up in the event you are experiencing a similar problem.

new update
I cut and paste your previous article to my honda dealership and that helped me get some action. They pulled the dash down, and reinstalled the vents and padded everything, but the kicker is, it still rattles in the same spots. Now I'm not sure if it's from the vents at the front or something, but at least the Service manager is very interested in resolving it now so hopefully try #9 will fix it.
Oh joys

The Fit Death Rattle
Huggins Honda in the DFW area made the first attempt to fix the problem last week. No questions asked. Turns out one of their techs has a Fit and had the same problem. The rattle has severely diminished and has only been evident twice. It has changed in frequency (the way it sounds) and duration. BUT it is a noticeable improvement. They also adjusted my left headlight. It’s now perfect. I would highly recommend this dealership and have regrets that my vehicle was purchased from the dealership on the west end of Fort Worth F**** K*** Honda.
Winnipeg Honda is good here in my city. At least the service manager cares and wanted to get involved. Although I think its time to write Honda and tell them this is a common issue we all suffer from, especially when its cold in winter.
Sincerely,
the rattling dash that will be fixed some day

I didn't
I never did, but i guess i could. I traded that one in for a MT and now that its closing in on winter again, so are the rattles in this new one. I think i have to accept that the car has a cheap plastic dash and it will rattle. My drivers side A piller isn't making any sound so i can live with the central vents rattling.
The issue is, you have to either write to Honda USA or Honda Canada unless there is a shared one which i haven't bothered to look at.

Took my fit in for the second time regarding the dash rattles and again, they said " i test drove it, then with a tech and we don't hear anything". So, needless to say, wasn't happy with the reply. I went to pick it up Friday night and had a chat with Frank. Asked Frank if I hear it on the way home, who wanted to go for a ride. He did, heard the rattles, now the car goes in tomorrow and i get a rental. YAY
well FINALLY, Honda recognized the problem and have set out to fix it. As of yesterday they wanted to keep it overnight to compare it to other Fits. I am HOPING they are going to make the changes to the fits pre-sale. get it back today and will try to scan the invoice so you all can see what they did and maybe use it to show your dealers what wsa done to fix it.
i am happy again!
i am happy again!
Any news? What did they end up doing to fix it?
My Fit is driving me crazy. As soon as I get up to 60 mph in 5th gear it starts to get obnoxious. Sounds like it is right behind the passenger front airbag.

basically, they had my car for 2 days and DID notice the rattles. They even compared my Fit to the others on the lot. ALL of the Fits there had rattles. They posted a bulletin to Honda and are awaiting the "tech fix". I will keep you updated as i find out. I want this SHIYAT fixed!
Take it to the dealer now! The rattle is worse when it is cold and it might be easier to get them to deal with it
Also, my dealer told me there is a Honda service bulletin to deal with the problem.
