Fit engine size compared to others...
Hi,
I'm new here and I have some questions please. I have read some info here about folks wanting to swap the engine that comes in the Fit with something else. Compared to say a B series engine, is the Fit engine/tranny dimensions the same? I don't mean displacement size, I mean overall dimensions.

No they're really not similar at all. The L15 engine and the 5 speed transmissions in the Fit are both significantly smaller than the B-series and its transmissions. And I'm pretty sure the engines are 180 degrees opposite of each other... with the Fit's transmission on the left side of the car (intake on the front), and the B-series tranny on the right side (intake on the back). I have yet to see a B-series swap. However, there have been minimal K-series swaps, although again the engines are not even close in size. But I think there is at least one company making mounts for the K to go in the Fit. There might be other posts on this forum about swaps.
The L15 is much closer in size to the SOHC D-series, but the L is still smaller yet.

In addition, all the newer engines spin the opposite direction. Honda used to be famous for their engines spinning the opposite of the "norm".
B and D-series were the "backwards" ones. Newer engines, K, L, R-series are "normal" spinning engines.

Great information. Thanks very much. I was wondering about something. I am planning a certain engine swap where space is a premium. That is the reason I asked about the physical dimensions of the L15. The car I plan to put this engine in weights about 1400 lbs so the L15 should pull it quite well.
Guys, what would you reckon a wrecked Fit would go for at a salvage yard?
Also, does the Fit have a VATS (vehicle anti theft)? Would it be hard to defeat or would I need to do some special funky modifications to make this work?
I have looked at the other options but the size of the L15 really makes it attractive.
Also, are 5 speeds hard to come by? Using an auto would be pointless...
thanks,
joe

Someone that owns a FIT, I need your help please...
I realize my question might be nuts, but would someone that actually owns a FIT, please: I need to know overall dimensions of the L15. How wide is it? I realize this is a loaded question but say what is the measurement of the engine from halfshaft to halfshat? It does not have to be 'perfect', just a close approximation would be sufficient.
Also, how deep is it? Say from the headers to the back of the engine?
I am planning an engine swap and I don't have much room. The L15 from what I can tell is very small and compact and would suit my needs to a tee. I just would like some ballpark figures of how big the L15 is.
I know, go to the local Honda dealer and find out myself. Well, I did today and they only had one Fit. The keys were locked up and they could not show me the engine bay. That is why I was asking.
thanks for helping me!

Cant you go to honda's site and look at the numbers?
edit: nm you only care about the engine's dimensions
Fit's engine is very tiny. Engine swapping the fit is difficult and requires a lot of melting and bending. It's very cramped under the hood if you ever seen it.

This is pretty rough, as the space is too cramped to get direct measurements anywhere without removing parts. It's around 10 inches from the back to the end of the oil filter at the front; about 20" including the manifolds. Width is around 24" for the engine alone; around 32" including the transmission.
