Performance mods

I got an manual 09 Fit in September with 72000km. The car has very little rust, mainly on the rockers; which I'll be repairing with sanding and repainting, and using something like fluid film to prevent anything further. Had I had it new, it would have no rust, but it is what it is. I am planning on putting side skirts on (any information on where to get those would be great).

I like the car a lot, but I would like it to have a little more zip. I'm not looking for a 100hp, more like 10-20hp (or at least something noticeable). What are some more budget friendly performance mods that I can do? Does an intake add any performance? Exhaust? I just don't want to spend money on something that adds zero power.

I'm also looking to be going for new wheels and suspension. I may do brakes too, although leaving drum rears seems fine, as the braking isn't terrible how it is now.

Again, I'm not looking to have to make the car a speed demon, just a bit more pep in its step.

Thanks all!

Air filter and muffler alone will net you very little HP. Probably zero. I would suggest against cone style filters as they are not optimal for engine longevity because they simply don't filter dust as well. A muffler might gain you 1 ft/lb of torque if you're lucky. A cold air intake will usually reduce power in low RPM.

The only way to make any power gains would be to remap the fuel and air management and possibly advance the camshaft timing slightly. With a tune and bone stock you might gain 10 hp at peak RPM. If you want more than that you might want to change the throttle body or intake manifold then get it tuned. Chop out the muffler. that might gain you some HP with a tune.

The easiest gains would be had with aerodynamics and weight reduction. That means remove the spare tire. Maybe an aftermarket belly pan. Get lightweight wheels and low rolling resistance tires. For maximum acceleration stick with stock 15 in wheels. Get lightweight bucket seats. Remove the back seats. Your options are limited.
