Vtec controller question...

Since this cars vtec is more vtec-e than anything, should one do the normal apexi AFC or the V-AFC? I've always used these on my s2k/prelude/CL-S and with the right tuning they yield awesome gains. Im also going to wait and see what hondata will do b4 making my choice. Has anyone installed a v-afc on a fit yet? thx

desmond.

Hondata has already stated that Fits are tuned in the best way possible from the factory. This is why they are not making reflashes for the Fit. (unless you're boosted)

AFC's are shit on newer cars, dont even bother with them. They can provide some gains, but will throw off ignition timing. Sooner or later, your coilpacks/plugs may suffer. (Coilpacks arent cheap either)

I am trying to run nitrous, and the car is leaning out really bad the last 1000rpms or so, so I was going to use an AFC to help with it...but would using really cause damage?

I agree 100%. I would even take it one step further and say that it's not just the Fit that tuned extremelly well from the factory, but newer cars in general. Well, at least naturally aspirated cars. There's always power to be "unlocked" with turbo cars. For instance, look at the 350Z. Most, not all, mods for the Z have actually been proven to lose power. Last fall, I had the opportunity to put my Z on a dyno at a dyno day with a bunch of local Z guys. The amount of money spent on mods for the other guys ranged from $600 all the way up to $4500 and then one guy that was fully built with twin turbos, but he doesn't count. haha The results? The guy that spent $4500 had the Nismo headers, cold air intake, and exhaust (all purchased from the delear by the way), put down the least amount of power. My bone stock Z put down more power than everyone else with mods, except the twin turbo Z.

I've heard of similar stories with multiple other cars. At least in the import scene, it's getting harder and harder to tune N/A cars unless you've modified them extensively or at least went forced induction.

I was also, at one point, actually thinking of picking up an Apex'i AFC Neo but later decided against it. I didn't feel like throwing out $350 for the part plus more money for dyno time, to realize a minimal gain, if any. Maybe if you already had an intake, header, and exhaust it would be something to look into. I honestly don't know for sure. Until someone steps out there and actually does it and lets us know what the results were, we can never 100% sure. At this point though, if you really want to modify the L15, I would strongly advise against this being your first mod. At least that's my .02

Besides, I'm sure you can find something better that will be less harmful to your ignition system. I hear Hondata's S200 is available. At least it was listed for the Fit on their site the last time I checked.

good points, even hondata said that the fit is air tight and tunning the engine would barely do anything at all without other parts extensively

and as there is no plans from anyone to do anything to the engine of this car I/H/E is a start, forced induction is best

a vtec controller would not do anything for this car
