TOP Fuel Headwork NA Stage Discussion

I read somewhere about a full headwork job by TOP Fuel that includes a reprogrammed ECU and other parts to make it work for the Fit wich made the L15 rev to 8k rpms and about 180hp.

Anyone got any info or a page where I could gather more info about this kit? I'm interested in exploring the NA possibilities of the little L15. (Please don't post if all your going to do is complain about the L15's unworthiness of being NA modded, I'm just exploring my options and NA to me is favorable over SC or Turbo no matter what, just want some extra info about the kit, what it includes price, etc...

I'm really considering buying a perfect condition L15 from a junked Fit that I found wich I could purchase for $1,000 according to the junk yard. Might be a good place to do some experimenting.

Wow, I've never been in demand before. Pretty amusing.

The thread that this came up in is here, along with links to various tuners doing work on the L15 in Japan. I posted it somewhere towards the middle of the first page:

https://www.fitfreak.net/forums/fit-...-cam-work.html

The Top Fuel setup puts out close to 143 PS, which is probably about 140-141 hp or thereabouts. Unfortunately, it's not a kit you can buy, it's just their tuning service -- you go in with your Fit, pay, and they work their magic on your engine. I suppose if you could send them the head they might be willing to do the work, or better yet, if you have some connections, get a used L15 there, send it to them for the work, then ship it here.

Personally, aside from the cams and ECU tuning, I don't think they're doing anything that couldn't be done here -- port, polish, etc. And even the tuning could be done I'm sure if you hunt around. Only thing that would be unique aside from the cams is the harness for the ECU as the F-Con doesn't have a Fit harness that I've seen. And even then, the JDM harness may not fit a USDM Fit anyway.

If anything, at least it shows what this little motor is capable of with some TLC and big pockets.

P&p

Like I said before. Check DH-Racing - Import Performance Specialists they are better than Top Fuel in porting as this is their job. Their cars have won a lot races.

I don't think you should be tuning your car if you're concerned about the mpg at all. Mpg is the last thing you should be thinking. If you're in on tuning.

Hmmm I'm a total newb when it comes to engine tuning. But I do have a few connections and there are a few Honda Tuners down here in PR that could probably work some magic.

Would one be able to contact TOP Fuel and have them send you their cam?

Hmmm... Anyone from these forums done any NA work on the L15? Or know of a knowledgable source on the internet to look up info from people who have worked on the L15?

I think the key question here when comparing to a FE solution like the JR SC kit, at least for me anyways, is reliability. From what the Jacksons are saying it seems like the 5lb kit is very reliable on the engine, and the 10lb kit can be made just as reliable if you build up the bottom end to take the stress better.

Anyone willing to throw around some well thought out assumptions as to how reliable an NA L15 would be with a higher cam, higher compression, built up bottom end (pistons, rods, balanced and blueprinted)?

My low experience guess is that in daily driven conditions a built up NA engine would probably be just as reliable when driven soft (under 4krpm). Then again, how hard would it be on the engine to spend an entire track day reving to 8krpm like there is no tomorrow?

If I had tons of money to dump on this project I'd buy a used L15 and work on it and be the guinea pig but for now, unfortunately I'm sticking to the JR SC at 5lbs with the ability to upgrade to 10lbs in the future and adding forged pistons, rods and balancing the engine to keep it 100% reliable.

I still want to keep researching on this topic though. The L15 seems like it has a lot of potential in making similar or better numbers than the B16s that were in the 99-00 Si if modded right, and also torquier by the looks of dyno numbers with bolt-ons.

Lets keep this one going, I'd beg for a sticky along with the turbo discussion thread.
