Im not sure what the big difference is and why the HFP will only work with manual. I drive an automatic and right now im rockin the aspec axle back exhaust. I soon look to upgrade to the buddyclub exhaust. I think the HFP exhaust should be fine tho i dont see why there would be any difference between the AT and the MT. This question is probably geared more towards someone who has put an exhaust system on a manual

It's sound/decibel issues. Something to do with the auto trans. and how it's all computer controlled with shifts, so it could be louder under hard acceleration, blah blah blah. Honda makes that claim, and says the HFP muffler is only for the M/T because like any car manufacturer they are under the assumption every driver will drive appropriately and properly, etc., (look in your owner's manual, it repeats "proper operation of vehicle..." over and over.) not rev up or redline through the gears. But, in reality I think the sound issues would be opposite - m/t can be louder if the driver is aggressive, where as even if you buried the pedal in an auto, it's still going to shift under redline, and since the car is geared for economy as well.
I think there's something cool sounding about the exhaust note during shifts from a manual trans. versus an auto, but that's just me.
Unless you at 100mph, then it's going to scream regardless of the tranny type

It won't hurt your car. If anything it'll benefit since you are freeing up the exhaust flow some.

As far as the HFP not being allowed on AT stuff, look at the big HFP exhaust thread. But in short, yes you can put them on your AT. I have the Megan exhaust on my AT and love the thing, it looks OEM and sounds perfect. Not loud but a nice low purr, and when you get to around 5000RPM it gives me chills lol, it sounds killer.

i have a Tanabe Medalion Touring Exhaust on my car and is not too lound only if you gas it hard on the start then you will hear it.
cursing at 2500 rpm on the highway is not much louder than stock. you will hear it when you go up hill but not annoying loud

in the A/T the exhaust system makes a nice drowning noise that gets annoying to most people that don't like excessive noise on regular operating speeds especially freeways. What i mean about that is at 3k rpm on the freeway it will exceed the 91 db lvl that is legal. Reason is for the gearing and the way the AT works. Plus in traffic a exhaust does a lot of gear searching making it downshift alot and you will hear the extra db as well.

I have run the megan as well as the J's racing, and both at 3k are loud to me. I'm older and don't like the noise in a A/T that I commute and drive 40miles 1 way to work tend to like to hear my radio. Just my input on it, but i would think the HFP would be the same.

my friend has an AT and her fit has the HFP exhaust on it. she bought it like that and it sounds very quiet w/ her AT. It's a REALLY nice tone. If u want an exhaust that doesn't make that much noise and is still smog legal and oem honda quality, i'd recommend this one. Oh but the exhaust proves no power gains, it's only for a little sportier sound.

there are other exhausts like the tanabe medallion touring and the fujitsubo wagolis that are designed to make proven power, and yet be quiet and look good.

i'd take that over a hfp muffler. (i'm running an a/t too.)

seems like the fit is going to go down as a car that has equal amounts of people modding the A/T version too! Too bad we cant get an actual performance engine to go with it. (b16's back in the day could be had with an A/T.)
