Best Bang for your Buck intake < $200 USD

As the title says which do you think is the best performing, best looking, best sounding intake for less then $200 USD? I want to upgrade my stock intake finally but don't want to spend $400 on the T1R Carbon (even though its the best )

Please post reviews only if you have actually used the intake you recommend, thanks!

i don't have a picture (if you want one i can rig it up again for photo)

i didnt want to spend a dime....cuz i didnt have one

my friend had a small cone airfilter left from a previous car, and we took a small piece of intercooler piping......and the piping was about 3in long and around 2-2.5 diameter, we put the piping half in the filter leaving half exposed, then took off the top of the airbox and pulled the stock filter out and put the exposed piping/cone filter combo inside the stock airbox and the cone filter sat on top of the bottom half of the factory airbox...

doubt it had performance gains but if you buy the parts new will cost you around $20 and it sounded great

Is there any dyno info on the Top Fuel? And is that real Carbon Fiber?

Smile Which type

Well it also depends on what you are looking to get out of the intake. There are chamber intakes, short ram, cold air and drop in filters? Each perform a little differently at different RPMS.
I have the Aspec CAI and I like it! Sorry NO PIC....it's a black tube with a filter on the end!! lol Sounds great at high RPM'S and adds a little performance.

Im extremely happy with just my Mugen drop in filter. Most ppl don't really know how well a drop in can do. They just assume since its not a huge tube with a fancy cone that it just doesn't do well. Don't you think Mugen and Spoon wouldn't bother with a drop in if it didnt do anything? Also you think K&N would be in business if their drop ins didn't do better than stock?

We are still dealing with a 1.5L engine. Most any intake/dropin wont have much gains. I dislike how I see some companies claim they made power with false dyno graphs. I cannot recall which brand but someone posted a dyno graph and the graph was so far off from what a normal dyno graph should be it was sick. Yet a lot of people who didn't know better saw the huge gains and took it as fact. You could see on the graph that the curves were insanely to high, almost as if they had another car on the dyno or they werent on full throttle and then just punched it.

Either way I've been in this business for awhile and gone thru ebay cheap mods to the top of the line products. A lot of companies who do make dyno charts also normally point out or choose not to that they are using it with other mods (such as their header, exhaust, etc) and that is just false readings again unless you happen to own each and every mod they are using.

I do agree I feel the $400 is a bit much for an intake especially when the gains aren't that much over another. I guess on some issues I can't really talk because I have the Mugen Header and Titanium exhaust BUT I believe with exhaust parts you can definately pay more for quality and sound which is a HUGE personal choice vs just a look.

Tough to decide on a budget. I don't see a huge differance between the intakes.

i got my fujita intake for 100 bucks thats why i got that. but the rains just kill my car, so i am thinking about switching over to the t1r for looks. or for the best bang probably the top fuel. i know sdpannfit has one for sale something like 130. but if he doesn't have it then go to pandagarage.com they are trying to get rid of all the top fuel stuff for some reason.

I can't speak for them but I know in my area of Florida no one wants to even come close to that brand. Im not really sure why since I haven't really dealt with them but when I show customers or tell them about it they just look like I said it was some cheap ebay brand or something. Even though it doesn't appear to be.

Without getting too off topic, I think people need to stop judging an intake's worth soley by hp numbers generated and realize that there are other more important aspects to consider when purchasing an intake -- namely how it affects engine/throttle response, the position in the powerband of what gains are recieved, and ultimately the drivability of the car with the intake installed. Differently designed intakes can have a dramatic effect on the way a car feels and responds, even though hp gains may be very similar among them. This is what you should really consider when you're thinking about an intake, and not much else.

I got my Fujita CAI off the guys down at AJ-Racing, I know the price on the intake has come down a bit, see what they can do for you. I think it will fall into your described budget.

I am not really sure why people are giving Fujita a bad rep, the product seems of very high quality and I believe it is the only one piece CAI, all the other ones are two with a sleeve connector. It fits, it looks good and most importantly it delivers.

dont get me wrong i love my fujita intake only when its not raining. i sucked in a bit of water the last time it rained and it blew my 02 sensor and a/f sensor.

but on that note. i just went out and bought me a k&n drop in for my stock to run during the times that it actually does rain here in san diego. so my problem fixed.

like i said i got the fujita intake for 100 bucks. top fuel i heard is pretty decent. my buddy has one on her fit and she loves it.

Hi guys, thanks for all the feedback. But I'm sad/happy to report that I caved and bought the T1R carbon intake... it was hard to resist since I didn't have to order it (was in stock and in my hands) and got a good price (thanks Ben)

Hopefully the information in this thread might come in handy for someone else.

I'm going to post a first impressions now.
