HKS HI-Power w Silencer or HFP Sport
HKS HI-Power w Silencer or HFP Sport
Hi guys. I have narrowed my search down to these two exhausts that I would like to purchase very soon. I have a auto so I would prefer something that's not loud and have a good deep tone. I can get either one for about the same price and I have listened to a fair amount of sound clips and seen pictures from some helpful members here.
HP gain is not my priority (at all) I am honestly going for the sound and add some character to my car. My car is as stock as you can get except the tints. I haven't heard either exhaust in person but my goal is to not get pulled over by cops and add a nice tone to my car. Remember, it has to be one of these two exhausts. Fire away and give me your thoughts!

as far as sound goes i think the HKS wins in that category. Although if u do get it i hope you dont mind the size of the tip. Its like a cannon while the HFP is a little more gentle in the looks department.
But about the Auto tranny. i think i heard from somewhere here that HFP exhaust doesnt work with the Auto. Not sure why but i think thats what i heard.

Do you think the HKS exits on kind of a ricey angle?
I am not planning on any midpipe. I just want the sound without spending a fortune. Thanks.
What were/are your reasons for not being a fan? Sound, shape, exit angle?
the HKS does exit at an angle but its not to extreme. it leaves at maybe at 5 or 4 o clock angle. Not to bad. The only tihng rice about the HKS is the size, and even then its not to bad as the quality is good
to tell you the truth it does but, now im looking at it me personally i like that... but dont get me wrong the HFP sounds great...
Awhile back you were debating getting the HFP for you AT. You ended up with the Megan. What changed your mind?
hehe. Good memory!
Price! That was big factor, i always thought the Megan looked better but want sure about the sound, once i heard it on a buds car i was old. I Love the looks and the sound is even better, quiet but deep and aggressive. Not a bit ricy at any RPM. Highly recommed it!

i'm deciding whether to go a-spec or megan.
Hey saralee. I put on the HKS back in September, and I LOVE it. I don't run a silencer. Great deep rich tones. It has a decent volume level, but it's not going to get you extra attention from the police around town. It's louder when accelerating on the highway, but even at 70 mph and above, it's not obnoxious. It's pretty easy to make the swap. The hardest part for me was trying to get enough room to get the jack and jack stands side-by-side.
It definitely works well with an automatic. It definitely doesn't look or sound like a Civic DX with a Maxwell House coffee can on the back. And Rice is subjective. Remember, some people call any Japanese car or bike "rice", not just ones with unpainted body kits that make the car look like a kitchen utensil. When you take the muffler out of the box, it looks like a cannon, but on the car, it's actually kinda subtle. The black interior of the exhaust tip reduces it's visibility from behind, and it's only angled a few degrees. Oh, and it doesn't stick out beyond the bumper cover.
Hey, it's a custom exhaust. It's supposed to be heard and seen.
Oh, and my favorite sound? When you're going downhill and the tranny kicks down a gear. Makes this awesome engine braking rev at 2500rpm, something you can't hear with the stock muffler.
Good luck with your decision. Remember, anything's going to be better than stock.

personally i think its loud. but thats coming from a guy who used to own a buddy club race spec exhaust. i have been running lately my hks super drager which is as quiet as stock.
dont get me wrong if i could get the quietness as my hks super drager while running a muffler like the hks hi power or greddy tic then i would still have kept it.
but it gets annoying after awhile. and i get so paranoid around san diego with the cops being complete assholes about import cars.
basically...it looks good, sounds good, but too loud.

"Do you think the HKS exits on kind of a ricey angle?"
That "angle" exhaust is a n N1 exhaust. It is designed with minimal bends in mind. HKS was the first to offer that for Honda and Acura. The angle is a mild one and that system is a racing exhaust system so I wouldn't recommend it as it attracts attention from cops and thieves.
I think what you mean by rice is when kids buy a cheap can muffler from the local parts peddler; i.e. megan, ractive, APC etc and it is welded on and attached with plumbing strap with the muffler at a sharp angle or pointing down.
I think the Apexi WS sport system is a good choice but I believe it is just an axle back however you can choose what you want for your mid section.

I think HKS make's good product's,but I agree that it is too loud day in/day out.I have an auto. also and first purschased the Greddy Ti because of the burnt tip and exit angle, but after a few week's,I got a Apex-i muffler. The Greddy(like the HKS) to me is to loud with no silencer and to "puffy" with 1.Plus with the silencer in place I think it look's kind of goofy. With my Apex muffler(or the Tanabe touring)you get the look of a regular muffler and street legal db's without all the drone of other's out on the market.Just check some file's on YouTube and remember "If it sound's fast and it's not, well it's kind of embarrasing when you lose to something like the soccer mom with the loaded mini-van."
No, not yet. I am leaning towards the HFP as I don't like the angle of HKS. Plus the HFP should be quieter on the auto.
