Doug Thorley Supercharger & Kraftwerks Supercharger Comparison Thread
To be honest, I'm not thrilled with the idea of either kit because they don't address ignition timing or the DBW. I'm waiting for a kit that inludes a Hondata or some other kind of complete reflash/reprogram.
i just wanted to hop on and calm everyone down... man you guys are getting crazy on here. Lets give this person a chance to post some info about the kit before jumping all over them and throwing them under the bus.
I just like the fact that we may have multiple options in squeezing a little more juice out of our little cars.
I really do like jdmchris but there are two sides to everything so lets hear what the deal is before we anoint chris the end all. Its not like thorley is some fly by night ebay store selling chinese parts.
*just my two cents

I know they are not. They make good products like I said before. However I am the only person on this site that can say anything about the kit because I had it installed on my car.
Hello, I'm new to these forums and saw this thread, (since everyone is talking about the Rotrex charger)and wondered what the key differences between this kit and the Kraftwerks?
They both seem like quality kits, but if I can save $500 and buy it now, then that would be my preference. (I'm an instand gratification sorta guy)

ZING, ZINNG! baha..
This thread is keeping me as entertained as an autistic kid in a room full of bouncy balls...
Edit: I'm sorry, that wasnt funny at all *ahem*

Doug Thorley s/c vs. Kraftwerks
Well as everyone already knows, there are 2 different superchargers available on the market, well one. And I am trying to decide between the 2 with pros and cons of each. I was looking for some unbiased input from some of the local FitFreaks on here. Input is greatly appreciated, as this project is a LARGE endeavor to say the least.
LOL I don't think you can take to heart any comments from anyone on this site at the moment as no one other than testers have any experience with these kits. It would be unfair to judge either one at this point with no experience from unbiased Fitfreak.net members.
From what I've seen, they both offer 5# of boost, but are set up in different ways. You can tell by the pictures posted in the DT thread and the KW site. The dyno graphs look like they are in favor of the KW SC with upgraded injectors. The DT dyno showed a hp number of ~130WHP. The KW dyno showed a hp number of ~145WHP. Other than that, that's my $0.02 from what I've read and seen on both sides of the fence.

It would seem one difference is where the air filter is located. The KW kit seems to have it near the supercharger and the DT kit puts it further away back near the factory location.

I would hope to gain some insight throughout many people's opinion's backed by facts.
I know that the DT s/c is available right now ready to go, and $500 less. Logistically the DT is the way to go as of right now, at least it seems that way, well find out with other posts.
I absolutely agree, its difficult to determine the better candidate with only the testers giving their input. But based upon data that is presented and available is pretty much my only way to determine what is the better kit. I am trying to find out all the ins-and-outs. I am no stranger to boost and superchargers, but these kits will have many discernible differences outside of just theory.

Kraftwerks all the way. It seems like they give more back ground on how much time and testing they put into devoloping there SC kit for the Fit.
Plus they have a AT version haha.

i'll wait for the KW kit personally. My opinion is that they have picked up where this kit left off. from what i recall from reading the numerous posts from over a year ago the sc sat too low for vehicles that are dropped which could cause issues. also the piping running from the sc to the air filter was too long and was not maximizing power. probably other things were changed too.
Doug thorley does make high quality stuff but i am dropping mad loot on this sc kit plus other mods and i want the assurance that the kit i am buying is the latest version.

It is irrelevant that Kraftwerks has been published in Siphon because that is a one of a kind prototype kit. It is in no way a guarantee that the kit featured in Siphon is what we are going to see when the kit is finally released and we have it in our hands.
Honestly I'm, sick of all the hype and speculation on these kits. When will someone finally release a kit into the hands of a CONSUMER so we can get a real review on the following:
Installation:
Professional Install Cost, Time, Difficulty, and Issues.
Performance:
Throttle Response, Torque, Top Speed and MPG, Noise and other issues.

DT = old version of KW's SC
DT = issues with piping from what the other post has stated
DT = MT only
DT = $500 cheaper at retail or $150 more during KW preorder
DT = 130 fwhp with H/E
DT = old engine management unit
DT = pending carb approval
DT = known issues with piping too low and can catch on something if the car is too low - clearance issues
DT = very long intake pipe reducing low end power
KW = new revised version of KW's SC
KW = revised shorter piping
KW = available to MT and AT
KW = $500 more or $150 more during group buy
KW = 145 FWHP with H/E + injector upgrade
KW = revised plug and play fuel control unit
KW = pending carb approval
KW = revised piping that will not have clearance issues
KW = short intake pipe increasing low end power
so far this is what i have read. Neither are shipped yet, and both are still in testing.
the only tester that has had both and can vouch is JDMCHRIS.

From the way that JDMChris/KW handled this, I can assuredly say that when I make my SC purchase it will not be from KW. I may buy from Doug Thorley instead.
Why? Because this thread has made the contrast of the way these two companies do business glaringly obvious.
At the frontlines of Doug Thorley's fit crew appears to be a mature and honest, well behaved and well mannered salesman with the consumer in mind. Obviously Doug Thorley wants to provide a product to the consumers that will give them an option -- and a cheaper one at that -- of going another route. Also, even when JDMChris made his unprovoked, ignorant, and childish attack on the quality of Doug Thorley's product, this rep handled the situation coolly and professionally without being defensive, but rather keeping to their obvious standard of keeping the consumers informed and dealing directly with the facts rather than wild assumptions.
JDMChris, on the other hand, came into this thread with guns blazing. Obviously at first sight of rivaling threads KW has their fire lit, clearly they're determined to stamp out any competition with assumptions and accusations galore. The maturity of the representative here poses a problem for me, as GOOD companies usually choose representatives that REPRESENT what their company is like. In this case I would be lead to believe that KW is worried that their product either won't be good enough to compete OR maybe they just want the market share for themselves. Set their own prices, maybe?
Well, where I come from we know that competition is a good thing, and JDMChris, I think you should take a look into that book. Competition is good for the consumer -- isn't that who you said you cared about? Competition keeps all companies involved pushed to create a better, cheaper product that appeals to the consumer. What is it about for you? Making money? Or is it about being the best at what you do and giving your consumers the very best deal you can?
And if you know of problems with the setup and you've got the consumer in mind, wouldn't you want to let Doug Thorley know so that the consumers you care about don't end up with the problems you speak of and your competition can push you further with their developments?
Anyways, this thread definitely killed my appreciation for KW.
