Potential Buyer - Questions About Modding.

As the title says, I am currently in the market for a new car. I own a 2006 Mustang GT with the usual intake, tune, pulley and suspension mods. The car is fun, fast, and gorgeous but I don't use it.

Yes, I know that doesn't make sense, but here is why. I go to school at The Ohio State University. I cannot let my baby sit outside here. There are just too many crazies. However, therein lies the problem. For that reason, I don't use it. My car is two years old with only 4500 miles on the clock. I need a car that I can use now. Although I will hate ditching the Mustang, I would inevitably sell it anyways when Ford releases the 5.0 in 2011. As for right now, I would like a car that is practical, fun, and gets great gas mileage.

As I have described before, it should be no surprise to any of you that I love modding cars. If I get the Fit, would it be wise to mod it? I mean, the car wasn't built with performance in mind. My question to you who have modded your cars, is why? I'm not saying its a bad thing or that I disagree with it. I have seen many Fits that are stunning.

Are there any talks of releasing upgraded internals, bigger turbo kits, etc? I think if that were the case, this car could easily blow away many cars on the road.

Thanks for listening.

if you're just going to replace the car in 2011, you're better off buying a cheaper used car instead of a new Fit. pick up an old 92-95 civic hatch with the VX motor. it gets like 50 mpg.

but if you really want to get the fit, i don't blame you. i love mine. my fiance loves hers.

kraftwerks has a nice 5 psi supercharger for the fit, and they're going to be releasing a higher boost kit pushing 10 psi.
there are a few turbo kits available.
these kits add roughly 25+ whp, and more with other mods and higher boost obviously.

The Fit already blows a lot of cars away in the twisties I think C&D said it got a faster slalom speed than the C6 Corvette. Another said the emergency lane-change speed was quicker than an F430.

I may have gotten that mixed up, but regardless, it's still impressive.

The Fit is a fun car and i'm sure that you'd enjoy it. This comes from someone with a 550whp 5.0 in the garage. That being said...why not just get a good alarm and car cover and keep the Mustang. My then 2 year old '88 GT survived my college days despite the custom paint job, wheels, suspension, built motor, stereo, etc.

I have also considered something similar to this. I wish I had the income now to keep the Mustang and get a Fit. I'll probably end up getting a Civic hatch as that one member said.

I love those old 5.0'S

My wife works at a Ford dealership that specializes in rare new Fords. So, I've driven quite a few varieties of the new Mustang and I can honestly say that I like them all. My favorite so far was the 1 of 24 Saleen Supercharged AF edition, but all have been cool.

I agree on the old hatch idea. They were great dependable cars. Only problem is you might feel a little let down going from a powerful, decent handling, good looking car to a pure no frills economy car.

Yeah. That has crossed my mind MANY times. I really don't know what to do. This has to be one of the hardest decisions I have ever made!

On a side note, why did you keep your car all these years? There is absolutely nothing wrong with that, but what kept you from getting anything newer? The reason I ask is that I am one of those guys who always needs the newest toy on the block. I could very well keep my Mustang and continue to mod it. What is your opinion?

I actually sold my '88 a few years ago. kept it for about 17 years. It became mostly just a race car....ran 10.30's. I now have a '90 LX hatch that was a friends car. I did most of the work to it back in 2000 and know the car well. I made him an offer and it's now mine. It's just sitting in the garage till I have more time and money to update it. The basics are there...like a Novi 2000, TF heads, intake, cam, Tremec TKO, etc.

I've always tried to have a project car to keep me from messing with my DD. My Explorer doesn't have a single performance mod. For some reason, I like my wife's Fit so much that I can't leave it alone. It's a fun car.
