SHG Intake

Race inspired, I modified the intake box for way better flow while retaining the response. I cut away ALL the resonators and the elbow. I replaced it with a 3" elbow from the TB to the box and plastic welded the box back together. I insulated the box with Gold insulating/reflecting foil, to keep the intake charge cool. I added a mugen Filter for better flow. I also am running ducting from the OEM location to the front bumper. More pics will be up when that is up. The is definitely a difference on the butt dyno and very happy with the results.

its always nice to see people using their imagination instead of their wallets. im not to sure about the visual appeal but i have always been a fan of modding the stock air box.

any noticeable difference in power and sound?

I doubt it since he's trying to keep heat out of the box?

I like the gold foil.

How long did this take to mod. Also where did you get the 3 inch diameter elbow from and the foil. That is creative. Hopefully it works well for you!

The elbow i got from my local autoparts store, pretty generic. The gold foil i got from pegasus racing. And it took awhile to do and wouldnt suggest it for the inexperienced with cars and fabrication.

Thumbs up

You inspired me to try something like this. Very good work. You definetly notice a difference in throttle response and power?

looks like a good idea. Do you have more any detailed pictures of the whole process. I'm a little scared about just starting to hack away without knowing what parts to cut.

nicely done. i'm actually have a stock airbox project going also.

do you have the breather hose routing to the intake or do you have a breather filter on the end?

i did a similar thing with my EG and picked up 4hp and 8ft/lbs of torque using a k&n filter though... time to start playing with the fit. Since i haven't seen a complete pic of your intake setup, i'd put a filter on the blow by hose going to intake pipe if u haven't, I keeps oil out of the throttle body keep it cleaner and introduces less gunk into your system.

The honda engineers knew what they were doing with the intake, they just had to make it quite(restrictions). And if you think about it spoon uses the stock airbox too.
