My question thread....

I have a few questions i figure you guys could answer for me.

Okay. Right now my fit has intake, Megan headers, and Megan axle back. I would like to install a light crank pulley....
My question would be, i have been told i need to have a professional install it. I am assuming it so they can make sure it balanced and back their work? Also, would there need to be any tuning involved?

Next i would eventually like to get the Weapon R intake manifold. I am told you will have tune for this. My question is, tuning in general....whats the best way to do it, what is everyone using?

Thanks in advanced.

ok the pulley doesnt need to be tuned or balanced. there is a key way on it and it only goes on one way. the hardest thing is getting the bolt off. there are 2 or 3 ways to do it. i perfer an impact gun which is the easiest. but if you dont have that they make a special tool to hold the pulley from turning so you can get the bolt loose and if you dont have that you can jam a pry bar or big screw driver on the ring gear on the flywheel/flexplate to hold the pulley then loosen the bolt. but like i said. impact gun is the best and easiest.

Ghetto way:

Jack car up, stick screwdriver into flywheel teeth, put big wrench on bolt, and jack the car back down with the weight on wrench.

yup. that would work. but you have to make sure the wrench will go the right way/

Like most things, you don't NEED a shop to do it, but I probably would. Just because of the need for an impact wrench to make it easier. Sure, you could do it other ways, but with my luck I'd screw something up not using the right tools.

it does make it easier if you have thre right tools for the right job. you dont have to be as creative.

all good except that it adds stress on the front crank bearing, and no longer absorbs crankshaft resonance which accelerates bearing wear and can make the trust washer wear faster...

thrust washer in the engine, it's what keeps th crankshaft from moving back and forth.. if it wears out your will have crank walk which opens up alot of potential for other issues. for the 4Whp gain it's really not worth it.

Don't worry about crank walk, it's not a DSM. A crank pulley may or may not increase vibrations and speed bearing wear, but rotational vibrations aren't going to hurt the thrust washer. Nobody with a crank pulley has yet reported ANY symptoms of premature bearing wear, but it is a possibility.
