What if I install an exhaust header only?

Okay so I have a 2005 GD1 Fit (1.3L i-dsi engine) with stock exhaust and I get a squeaky noise from where the exhaust manifold meets the cat. So I'm thinking of changing the manifold to install a custom made header.

I'm doing this because I feel the manifold is getting old, but at the same time, I'm asking myself if there are any performance gains by putting in a header only. Any advice on what type of header I should get? 4-1, 4-2-1? And what about the diameter of the header? Should I keep it the same or go for thicker/thinner?

Thanks for the help.

Have you fixed the noise yet? Any luck?

4-2-1 makes more power on the low-hi end. And the 4-1 is good for mid - high end power. Its really up to you.

Nope. Haven't fixed it yet. There's a proper shop that does custom exhaust systems like 50 kms from where I live. I need to go there someday.

maybe your bolts rusted out and broke or a rubber hanger might have ripped and needs to be replaced. the only way to check is to jack up the car and look

The T1R Response header is 4-into-1 and boosts midrange performance, although it ain't much truth be told. I notice it on hills at lower RPMs. They spent a bucketload of time getting the design right so it might be a good model for your local shop to start with.

To answer the question. I would say it will net you some kind of a gain but you will leave something on the table!!

Marko!

Im kindda late with this but the installation will be easier on newer fits for sure in that the bolts shouldn't be too badly rusted though you can still opt to put the header online It can still be done on older cars. You may want to consider buying new bolts for the connection between the header and the catcon.

I put a new exhaust on my Fit after having it for a year and man where those bolts rusty. All the water the exhaust pipping is exposed to plus the heat cycles it has makes those bolt a PITA to get off
