J swapping?

this month's honda tuning was really interesting with an ek that had a j32 swap in it.

anyone want to try mashing it in a fit? doesnt look that huge except that it stands taller.

i thought there were already a few that had that motor in a ek chassis?

seems like it would stick out of the hood more than the civic/integra chassis or close to the plastic trim under the window.

the honda fit has more hood clearance then eg/ek/dc. my only concern would be the width of the engine compartment.

i wish i had some measurements so i could test that out.

yeah i saw that guys thread on k20a.org

there is also a guy who did probably the first j swap into an ef civic. sticks way out of the hood. custom metal work will have to be done.

i think it weighs 200lbs more than a k series.

f20c has too much negative lean toward the firewall. doesnt look like i would be able to do it.

my new plan is to get a dc2 type r from japan and drop the f20c into that and swap a k20a into the fit. if both engine bays are open at the same time i will attempt to put the f20c in but i have strong doubts.

im just bored and considering the j32a.

anyone else have any input?

There is a local guy that has a J swapped Type-R. I think he bought the Type-R after it had been stripped, so there was no engine in it. I won't bother posting the link, because you have to be a registered member of STLHondas to see it.

He does have a hood on it too, it needed some of the under-hood webbing cut out to fit.

are you sure he didnt cut the hood out too?

i took a pic of this at Import alliance
the manifold doesnt even clear the hood skeleton even if it was lifted in the rear

I think you might need to be registered to read this, so I will quote a couple lines.

StlHondas

From the thread: I cut the webbing, swapped manifolds and lowered everything down 1.5in. The oil pan wont scrape. There is PLENTY of clearance...

I spaced down the mounts and subframe equally to keep the engine/ axle angles the same. It sits about 1.5in lower than before. I plan on compensating the height differences through the coilovers.

He is using a 09 TL 3.7 manifold so that there is more clearance. The engine is from a CL Type-S.

I like what he did as I am not a fan of the exposed engine look. This car looks stock from the outside.

If your going to stuff a larger engine into something why stop at a little bit larger? ... Engine swaps are almost always overkill in one way or another.

I wouldn't want to see a perfectly good car messed up with a swap and there aren't many cars around that aren't a mess of problems after an engine swap..... It is very difficult to do one right without spending a lot more than intended...... It is just a matter of opinion from an old guy that has done a few swaps and ridden in and driven a few more...... Pick up trucks are a breeze though.
