correct me if im wrong:

b bipe: connects your axle back to your cat. converter
downpipe: comes off the header and replaces your cat. converter

probably more extensive answers but thats how i see it!

Yep, what he said^^ The down-pipe, or test-pipe eliminates the catalytic converter and will generally eff things up, If you want louder, get a b-pipe and a header. There is at least one b-pipe available that doesn't have a resonator in it, that alone will increase the volume (decibles that is) of your exhaust.

Downpipe will make things much louder, and probably in a way you don't want.

You might want to go check a muffler shop for a custom made b-pipe as it doesn't seem like there's much choice for GE8 at the moment. I was quoted ~$150 for a 2.25" for my GD3.

I use a non-resonated stock B-pipe(yes stock resonator's been replaced with a straight steel pipe) with a spoon N1 muffler on my GD3. It sounds pretty deep even with a non-resonated B-pipe. And the sound should stay deep if u keep your stock cat.

I got a video here. It was taken about a week after I put on the spoon N1. I think it got a little louder than that now since weather got a little warmer....

The resonant drone at highway speeds will wear you out on long drives, but you can have a ball getting down on it in a full parking lot and setting off all of the motion sensitive alarms.... I loved doing that with a diesel Rabbit at shopping malls during the Christmas season.... I would laugh my ass off.

im sure it would noticeable louder with a b pipe. was the 150 resonated or not? have a resonator can make a difference in the sound/loudness

A resonator can make a huge difference in the sound, not only in how loud it is but how it actually sounds. Without a resonator you stand a pretty good chance of getting the "bees in a can" sound for which ricer Hondas are famous.

It wouldn't cost a whole lot to have a resonator welded into the B pipe.... It will cut down some on the noise inside of the car.... I would go with no more than 2 1/4" pipe because anything larger will result in some power loss in the lower RPM due to a loss of flow velocity.... It is big enough to lower the pitch and add depth to the sound..... I have had a muffler shop creation of an axle back pipe on my car for close to 4 years and will have the same guy do the rest of it when I need a larger diameter system to support future modifications.
