Converting a 5 speed manual to a 6 speed
Six Speed Really That Outlandish?
JDM Fit (Jazz) RS's are equipped with 6MTs. Granted, we're talking about different markets here, but the engine specs are exactly the same as the USDM Honda Fit Sport. I'm going to go way out on a limb here and say the conversion isn't impossible or even that difficult, albeit potentially cost prohibitive and not even speaking of the voiding of the powertrain warranty.
It's not the transmission the car left the factory with.
Also you're removing alot of bolts and things to even get to it.
Plus if something were to happen ANY dealer would probably blame it on the 6speed, the fact the bolts may have not been torque'd back to spec and so on and so forth.
Sure you could cite the Moss-Magnuson warranty act, but changing the transmission, linkage, ECU to get the extra gears could have adverse affects. Also a transmission removal and install isn't exactly the same as a bolt on air intake or exhaust.

Here's hoping the new model has a lower rpm cruising gear. We'll know soon...
This discussion has been had many times.. why does no one seem to consider that maybe, just maybe a decreased mechanical advantage (taller ratio) at those speeds will hurt consumption? Largely due to increased load and having less torque in a part of the rev range that is particularly sensitive to knock on these cars.
You don't suppose that Honda, the company that prides its self on efficiency and markets this car as a fuel-sipper, would not have done that already given their competitions offerings?
