New windshield $500!! Has anyone used a chip repair service? Update w/Photo!

So I got hit by a rock as I was driving home from getting an awesome tint job (the irony!). It's two little bullseyes now right next to each other. Nobody has the windshield yet of course and even Honda has it "backordered" till next month at a cost of $500+ not installed. I laughed.

So for now I think I'm going to try windshield rock chip repair service. Anyone have any experience with this? I found out that my insurance will pay for any windshield repair for free, no deductible or anything, but replacing is another story. Anyone done this before? How does it turn out?
This is about quarter size total.

How does it look? Is it just the same but won't continue cracking? Is it a blob? What happens?

there's a lil package you could buy at a local auto store.. it works ok.. it doesn't fix it completely but it will do.. my brother did it for my sister's car and you can't really tell.. it's not as obvious as it would be

Since my insurance is gonna pay it with nothing out of pocket for me than I'll let their recommended company do it. They're even gonna come out and do it here.

So just as an FYI for everyone, most insurance companies will do a windshield repair for free cuz it basically costs them nothing and it's covered under your comprehensive as a no fault so it won't affect your rates either.

Same thing happened to me. Big rock chip on my Fit's winshield from semi-truck. About a nickel size in diameter. My insurance covered it for free. The chip is now flushed with the windshield, but the the chip is still noticable. Better than wating until the crack splits, and better than paying a lot for a new winshield.

I second that. However, being that this is your first experience, you really don't know which place does a good job or not (unless you can get a recommendation in your area). What you CAN do is make sure (who ever does the job) the cracks are sealed, meaning that you can not see the "white" lines/cracks. The cracks will still be there, of course, but they well be clear and (depending on the damage) hardly noticable. If you still see white lines, just till them to reapply the sealant in that area. That's basically all they do....squeeze a mixed or ready-mixed sealant into the cracks, but it does the job.

I'll be sure to double check when they do it. They say they guarantee it and if it discolors or continues to crack they'll fix it (or maybe do a windshield replacement?).
I've never done this chip repair before, but like one of my mottos, "you never know until you try!" And it's way better than paying $500.

Had a stone get my windshield 3 days after I got my Fit,my crack was low and to the left. Had a glass shop do the repair hasn't cracked any further in 3 weeks but is still noticable in certain light. The location of your damage looks like it might be in your line of sight, some places won't repair damage in the line of sight and tell you to get a new windscreen. Good luck on whatever comes down. It's actually a bit higher and to the right of my line of sight. Annoying but it doesn't really get in the way so hopefully they don't trip on it.

The other thing that has been stressed in getting stars and cracks filled is that you need to do it as soon as possible.

As a Subaru pulled onto the freeway tonight, it flipped up a rock at 60mph that hit square in the middle of my windshield -- holy crap it was loud, but no crack thankfully.
