UPDATE!!

So the chip repair guy from Safelite messed up and split the rock chip into two bigger cracks. I spoke with a different technician and he said that if they guy did everything correctly it shouldn't have split considering it's been there a week. The company is now hiding behind their fine print that says during repair it may get worse and they wouldn't be responsible. They did say they would replace it for me and charge the deductible. Nice. After some not so friendly conversations I had to take it up with my insurance since this was their recommended repair service.

Safelite will now replace the windshield once it arrives anytime in the next month(!) for only $100. I'm still not too happy about it but I can't really do much about it now, no one else will touch it. I'm just glad that for now the damage didn't move into my line of vision.

Funny how Safelite did the same thing to a Mercury windshield of mine. "Ooops, now we get to sell you a whole windshield."

I paid the deductible, but I told the insurance company and got another company to do it.

Sounds like they have a system. I mentioned how it was curious that they were so quick to try and get me to replace the windshield when it was their fault it broke. It didn't faze them whatsoever. They really didn't care and offered no form of discount or compensation until my insurance intervened.

ooooh im so mad. driving home on the 55n from newport beach saturday. A freaking BRAND NEW corvette decides he's special. So he cuts accross the double yellow to get in the carpool lane and tossed up a rock cracking my windshield behind the rear view mirror. started out as a 4" crack. didnt drive it all day today waiting to get it repaired. and it GREW to about 12". OMG i am soooooo mad right now

I did it through my insurance for free as well (on a different car) and the company they used was Safelite. They came all the way out to my house and did it there. It does a very good job but it doesn't completely make the crack disappear. It fills most of it in but if you look closely you can still see a little spot usually. Still, it's definitely worth doing because it looks better and restores the integrity of the glass.

edit: Oh I didn't read your update. Sorry to hear about that. At least $100 is pretty cheap for a brand new windshield.

So three weeks later Safelite finally got their sheep together (they forgot to order the molding when they ordered the glass) and came out and replaced my windshield this weekend. I have to say after driving around for a month with a crack, a brand new windshield looks awesome. My car is new again!

Gimme, were they able to repair a 12" crack or will you have to replace it?

I just got home from Corona Honda. WARRANTY! God i love my guys down there. I was super worried I would have to replace the windshield out of my own pocket. But a factory windshield has been ordered.

P.S. I told them about www.fitfreak.net and the problems others were having. I sat down with them and we came here. I showed them this thread and the other one. This is when they said, "we'll warranty it for you"

Not too good

i got my odyssey fixed some years ago because insurance was offering for nothing if I fix chip instead of replacing window. You can still see the chips. i think it's only good at preventing it from spidering or cracking further. it's been 5 yrs and it doesn't leak and hasn't spread.
