Hi Everyone - A/C Question
Hi There from Southern CA.
I've visited this forum in the past but never became an official member, until today.
Stopping in to say hi, and throw a question out there in hopes of getting an answer/guidance.
Here's the gist of it: 2019 Fit EX with 31k and the a/c has lost its chill. Dropped windows do me more good at the moment.
Is this likely a low 1234ya refrigerant thing due to a leak (take it in for repair) or is it a easy recharge (quick and easy); and why is 1234ya so expensive? ($150 for a recharge kit - why? - 134a is $40)
Has anyone else had this issue pop up?
Trying to field this out before I drop $150 on a recharge kit to only have to go and spend even more for a leak repair.
Also a battery note for 2019 Fit Ex owners with the fancy lane assist (like and dislike this thing) and smart head unit.
Some goober designed the placement of a cooling plate at an angle right next to the battery, so a 151R is likely the only go to.
The 51R would rub on the plate. (Why Honda designer person? That's just mean.)
Thanks.

I'm past the warranty mark on the a/c I think (30k I believe), so I went with the out of pocket direction.
I went with a recharge kit from Autozone. The kit was $150ish and very easy to do with a quick tutorial found on youtube.
The a/c now blows nice and cold. Definitely recommend. Hopefully it lasts for a while; if not, I still have half a can in the garage.
A local mechanic (a/c & radiator specific guy) quoted $240 and said that if there was a leak in the system, that it would be hard to find. (Oddly enough, the mechanic's web page shows a picture of the shop with an exact model of my car inside. Figured from that image that the guy might know what he was talking about. Plus I've seen my car twin buzzing around the neighborhood; maybe it was the one in the photo? Who knows?)
If the recharge only lasts a short while, I will likely go to said mechanic and have it repaired properly. Time will tell. So far so good.

Mine hasn't totally lost its chill, but it definitely cools better when the fan's at least at 2. Would it be a warranty fix, or out of pocket?
