My driver side window motor cable broke and I am trying to install a new window lift motor assembly. There's some decent tutorials online that I am following.

The problem: the window is stuck in the down position. I can raise it by hand about 4 inches but can't seem to get it any higher than that. This is keeping me from accessing the two bolts that I need to undo to take the window out.

1) Any ideas what might be causing the window to 'stick'? If so, any ideas on dislodging it?
2) Do I have to undo the window to install the new window lift motor assembly.
