2004 Jazz overheating

Hi Folkes, I am new to this forum so I will put a question up & see how I go, I have a 2004 Honda Jazz that I bought for my wife to drive because she can't park the Falcon, it has been a great little car, but the other day we were driving to my daughters following a tractor for a while which happens often & the temp light came on, I checked the water & it had pushed the water back to the water tank & filled it to the top. I drained the tank & toped the radiator up with water& was able to get back down to Burnie which is down hill, then I called RACT & had them take it home on the truck. I checked things out & could not see to much wrong except the thermostat was not working properly, So I replaced it. The car runs well no light comes on & I can push it hard up hill to Riana which is all uphill & about 25 k away. It is still pushung water back to the water tank & leaving the radiator down about half a litre when it is cold.I top up the radiator & drain some water out of the tank & drive for a couple of hours with out any problems.
Anyone out there had any problems like that, That can offer some advice.

With radiator and cooling problems I would first suggest that you replace the thermostat which you already did. To me this seems like either an issue of debris or some sort of clog within the radiator. What I recommend is to flush out the radiator system. Get some rad flush at the parts store and drive it for a couple of days then drain it. This might loosen up any clogs. Beyond that, I would be suspicious of the water pump. Perhaps it is damaged or not working properly. You might also want to get a tester for the head gasket. You would hook it up to the overflow tank and check for exhaust gasses present in the tank. Easy and cheap test.
