you can try plastic polish or even ScratchX but make sure to use a foam pad. no terry towels as it induces too much heat. MF towels absorbs too much. need the polish on the pad surface

for small areas i use a shoe polish applicator like this kiwi one. works great.

after polishing if u notice that the foam is a tad too coarse, id follow up with scratchX on a foam wax pad. will make it nice and flat (glossy).

After years of messing with different plastic, paint, and even fiberglass polishing compounds, I've decided they are all basically the same thing. A liquid base with grit added to cut the material. Even metal rouge is similar. It just skips the liquid base.

I say that because, if you have a light cut paint polish around the house, it will work just fine. Just use something super mild.

If you have to buy something, Meguiars PlastX works well as does almost any other ultra fine cut cleaner/polish.

I use Plexus on the cars clear plastics (headlights, instrument panels, interior piano black/wood trim, tailights, etc) as a maintenance polish every few months. Keeps it all looking like new.

I was late to the posting party. As usual, kenchan gave great advice above!

In short, use foam and your choice of a really light polish and all will be good.

thanks gafit. ur info reinforces my post so this is all good!

the key is use a foam pad for polish. and just keep rubbing in a circular motion until the polish is all dry to ensure the diminishing abrasives are all broken down.

Air filter

the thread below caught my interest
I’m a newbie not a crazy car guy (yet)
the thread had info about how changing just your air filter (not ethe box) slightly increases performance torque etc
?????

I have been running cotton gauze reusable air filters since 1988. They are all a plus in my book. Possibly better fuel mileage, possibly better performance, but definitely lower cost than buying new paper filters. I put over 200k miles on a couple. Put over 150k on the one in our Fit before a mouse decided to make it part of their home.

yah, changing filters can improve performance on some cars, but be weary that oiled filters such as K&N filters are notorious for allowing more particles through and getting gunk stuck on the sensors. i think the best filters are like ones from R2C.. havent really checked whether they make ones for our cars.

High Performance Cold Air Intakes and Performance Air Filters

they are dry filters so no worries of oil getting on the MAF sensors, throttle bodies, etc. for my GK i just use either the factory or fram filter.

on my STI, same thing, stock intake box stock filter, no plans to swap intake on my WRX either.. on my Golf-R i run https://store.034motorsport.com/x34-...-0t-gen-3.html and piggy back with much higher boost setting.

All of mine have been K&N's. Same with 4 of my car buddies that I grew up with. We've all used oiled K&N's since the late '80's. Not a single one of us have had to buy a MAF, IAT, etc sensor and we're all HIGH mileage drivers that still run them.

I think the people that have problems with oiled filters are ones that douse the things in oil. It only takes a very light spray.

Current vehicles with K&N's are our Fit (198k miles), my Lincoln (57k miles), 1990 Mustang (108k miles). Our VW will get one when time to replace the OEM filter.

That being said, nothing wrong with dry filters at all and they alleviate the concern of over oiling. I'm just a creature of habit.

woot, got the raceseng topology on my WRX and took it out for a test drive with my kid. VERY NICE! luv da feel of the shifter now. finally turning into my kinda car.

only thing left is tint (next week ) and cobb AP (hopefully a few months?).

kid mentioned the WRX's exhaust sounds good on da outside while i pull away, but the sound is terribly lacking inside da cabin.. i said GOOD! lol why do u think i specifically got the one with da harman kardon, son?! lol i like listening to music during my commute and loud exhausts tire me. im not so young like u kid. haha

considering more and more cars are coming out with aluminum panels PDR is a dying skill.. aluminum is so brittle it is extremely difficult to fix deep dents especially while not damaging the part of the door ure using as leverage. another reason why tesla repairs are so damn expensive! aluminum is a whole nother animal
