New here

Just wanted to say hi. I now (as of last week) own 2 Fits: an 08 sport MT purchased new in March 08 and now an 08 Base AT which i got for my DD.

It's that latter purchase that has led me here - about to install an aux input for an ipod and there is a lot of very useful info here.

Further - I am embarrassed to admit I had forgotten that I could recline the back seats (I did in once when I first purchased the car and never since), so thanks to the poster who posted the sticky about magic seats.

I very much like my Fit (well obviously, or a wouldn't have purchased another one.) I think the only issue I have had is the tires - I had to have them all replaced at just over a year old and less than 12000 miles.

You mean about the tires? Well I wouldn't have said so. My mechanic (perhaps politely) put it down to poor quality (i.e. cheap) tires. I don't drive much (I only have 14k on my fit and it's 18 months old) so it will take at least another year to discover if it's my driving or if it really was the tires. My, that would be embarrassing.

The Fit I purchased which is almost 2 years old now only has 16K miles and still has the original tires with a fair amount of tread left on them.

huh, i sold my factory set while it was still new so didnt get a chance to use it much...had maybe no more than 100miles on them.

im currently running Fusion ZR1 summer tires (bridgestone's tuner brand) and they grip very well even in the rain. i put about 2k miles on them and tread seems to be holding up real well.

Thanks for the welcome.

I was fortunate to get the 08 Fit base - I purchased it from a couple of grad students returning to Asia (sometimes living in a college town has it's advantages). They had really babied it (and have the service record to prove it), so I'm hopeful it will last DD a looooong time. She's down in Alexandria VA and has been drive a 97 Saturn SW1 and I needed her (for my own maternal peace of mind) to have a reliable vehicle. Don't get me wrong, the saturn did us proud (this was made at the time before the rest of the company had screwed up the saturn line), but it was on its last legs. We donated it to WAMU (that would be american university radio rather than the financial company) and we both, rather soppily, shed a tear when we dropped it off at the auction house.

The only downside of this new fit - she's one of the people that find the headrest uncomfortable. We're about the same height (although sadly not the same weight) so it must be to do with posture etc. Currently she has the head rest turned around - not ideal from a safety POV but needs must.

i like to keep my head on the headrest while driving. it's kinda like it resets my posture. especially while at a stop light i keep my head on the headrest just in case someone smashes into me from the back.

I would definitely think twice before messing with the headrest like that... it serves a damn important purpose.

There have been several threads (I'm not sure if on here or elsewhere) on this issue. While I agree about the importance of the headrest, in terms of safety, the reality is that when she has the seat as erect as she does the headrest is at most 1" from the back of her head, even when reversed. It's the new safety requirements and it's not just the Fit. As I understand it, car manufacturers have had to choose between making the seat comfortable or getting the highest safety ratings. It doesn't seem to be height, or body weight or even sex - some people find it OK and some people don't (to the point where long drives produce migraines).

I have read that the 07 accord headrest works on the fit and is more comfortable so I'm seeing what I can find. Other people have actually bent the arms of the headrest, and we've not doing that.
