Question Hello with a question, long...

Great forum, happy to have discovered you all . I'm not sure if I'm in the right spot on this site, but I certainly could use a few words of wisdom. I just picked up my 2010 Fit Sport w/out nav yesterday. It was a marathon day of test drives and paperwork and I got home very late - note to self - never do that again, I didn't use my best judgment after being at it for 3 plus hours late in the evening.

Pouring over my contract when I got home, I found something I did not pick up (very dumb) late last night as I was signing. I had agreed to an extended service contract as I was promised a lower interest rate if I did. (Does anyone know if that is really true??) After calculating the savings in interest, the actual contract was not as expensive as I originally thought. (I did neglect though to calculate _back_ in the fact that financing the said warranty over 60 months brings the price back up... )

Anyway, my Honda finance contract has a line item for extended warranties. It is marked n/a?? Instead, the dealer added the price of the warranty ($1835 ouch) into the price of the car. Is that common or legal? Now for some reason this really worries me. What if I want to back out of the coverage? How do I prove what I paid for the coverage vs. what I paid for the car as it is never detailed anyplace? I think in NY I have either 30 days or 60 to get a "full refund" on the extended warranty? If God forbid, the car is totaled and then the warranty ends and Honda finance as the lien holder is entitled to the residual on that warranty. Yet again, how is that determined if it isn't spelled out how much I paid? The bill of sale does have the extended warranty contract listed, but again, w/out a price attached. How did I miss this?? I feel really taken and tricked, and furiously upset with myself for not being more careful. This is not my first car!! The sales person was so low-key my guard was down for the finance guy...

Has anyone else been through this? Any advice? I had an awful night's sleep worrying I'd really messed up. Of course, I called first thing this morning but the finance manager and sales person with "my" file are off today and the sales manager refused to answer any of my questions w/out my paperwork. I'd like to either ask for a new contract (yeah, right...) or an out and out refund on the extended warranty. Do I have any hope? Is there a way to find out my rights? No one will speak to it, either Honda Finance or the warranty co. as they don't have my file yet. Should I show up there tomorrow?

I was so excited about this car... I've been driving a 2008 Yaris 2 door hb which I liked very much but I was more than ready to step up to the Fit. My poor judgment last night has taken some of the glitter off the whole thing. I took her out for a little drive today though and that really cheered me up.

Thanks for listening...

I would show up at the dealership and just tell someone about your concern. Just request some form of documentation about the warranty, or the refund of the warranty. They will likely come up with something for you, rather than cancel it. If they flat out didn't sell you the warranty but pulled a fast one on you and raised the price of the car instead, you see if they deny selling you a warranty. They probably won't do that, but if somehow they did you act very nice and unthreatening towards them, apologize for the misunderstanding and then come up with creative revenge plots.

Warranty should be cancellable. Go back to the dealer and tell them you want out.

Simple as that. Don't let them play games.

I would go back to the dealer and cancel the extended warranty.

I happened to me when I bought mine from Northwest Honda in Owings Mills, MD. The finance guy told me that "it requires by LAW". So I signed the contract. I reviewed the contract after I got home. It states clearly that is not a requirement to buy extended warranty. So I went back to the dealer the same day and asked for sale manager. I said the finance guy missed leading. The dealer removed the extended warranty and redid the contract.

If your car was total or the warranty company went out of business, you got nothing. If I have to buy the entended warranty, I would buy it from Honda only.

Yes, if you have any question about the warranty I would go back to the dealership. I know some people think the extended warranty is a great idea but I have never had them on any of my cars.
