About to buy - oil change frequency?

I just signed a purchase agreement on a 2009 Fit Sport. I ran a CarFax and found out the oil has been changed as follows; first oil change after 6 months at 18k miles, second at 6 months and 11k miles, third at 6 months 9k miles, 4th at 6 months, 11k miles, Car has 52k miles on it. Is this normal? On my current car (a Pontiac) I change it every 3 - 5k miles or 3 months, whichever comes first... Please let me know if I should be concerned. The dealer did all the oil changes on the Fit and the seller says he changed it when the oil indicator "told him to".

My maintenance minder has come on 3 times in my 2010 Fit. I got the first oil change at 10k / 3 months, 2nd at 10k / 4.5 months, 3rd at 10k / 4 months.

The first one sounds strange to me, but the rest sound normal.

Judging by the miles I would say this car spent a large part of its time on the highway. Although an 18k oci does seem a bit high, remember that the factory fill is suppose to stay in the car longer than the subsequint oci's. Therefore, you have nothing to be concerned about. Follow the minder and youll have no troubles with this motor.

Nice reference KC. I think I'll pass my 5k intervals this time and monitor the MM to see how far it goes.

This vehicle has been driven mostly highway miles (long trips from NY to Texas, NY to Vermont, etc.). Thanks for your replies. The warranty work was not done on the lost motion spring and I read the recent thread on that *IKES* Should I wait until it is a problem or should I have the work done? How will I know if it is acting up?

UPDATE: Just spoke to owner. He said he had the first oil change done around 8K miles (it just did not appear on the CarFax - he has the paperwork). QUESTION: He said he had the oil changed when MM said around 5 or 10%. The last one he let get down to 0. From what I've read here, you guys say to change around 15%.

SHOULD I BE CONCERNED? I don't want to buy this car if it was not maintained properly. I plan on putting 100K on it...

No concern! 15% is when you schedule it. Taking it to 0% [or minus] will not hurt anything. It's only a reminder to change the oil.

Those highway miles are a good thing.

Have the LSM recall done if your car qualifies. Don't wait for problem to surface or ignore it. Problems with it? Cowl clips - a proper valve adjustment are really the only ones. Mention your concern on those points to the service folks when you take it in.
