How often do you guys change your oil?

I have an 08 Fit Sport, and right now it has about 8300 miles on it. I got my first oil change around 5200 miles, and I was wondering how often you should change your oil? I've heard anywhere from every 5 thousand miles to every 3 thousand miles. Also, if I wanted to go with synthetic oil would I have to wait until I have more miles on my car? Thanks.

Not sure if the '08 has this feature, but on my '10 I go strictly by the Maintenance Minder. My first oil change came at 10,114 miles.

Isn't this the week to change oil? I had mine done on Thur it was at 16,000kms or .62 x 16,000 = miles. Next when indicator says 15% or one year as dealer suggested so likely next Aug.

I just do mine every 5,000 miles like I used to on my old car. Don't think it's necessary with Mobil1 synthetic but it keeps me on the ball with maintenance in general.

No maintenance minder on our GDs or GEs, so people here go by the 5000km/10000km interval depending on oil used. The shorter interval is used for mineral oil.

5000 km = 3100 mi.

Since I've been taking the car to trackdays, I shorten my interval for full synthetic oil to account for the additional abuse: 7500 km between changes (= 4650 mi).

maintenance minder on mine is usually about 10,000 miles which is when I change my oil. I use Mobile 1 synthetic 0w20 and I have 102000 miles on my 2007 fit sport 5spd. My motor still looks new and I know this because I just did the first valve adjustment at 101000 miles.

Every 3500 miles (roughly 3 months, MM down to 30-40%), but motorcraft 5w20 is $12 for 5 qt so no biggie.

3 mile commute to work = teh suck for oil, and we get some harsh winter here. Better safe than sorry.

The civic got it every 2500 but it had the excuse of blowby and turning it diesel black.

I change my oil once every 10,000 miles and I use either Royal Purple or Mobil 1 Extended oil.

No need to really change it before that unless you have the money to burn.

Out of curiosity, how far out of spec were the valves?

We base recommended oil changes on our analyses of viscosity degradation. That's 3500 miles for conventional hydrocarbon oil and 6000 miles for synthetics and always with a new oil filter.

Pretty much the same but I always go by the percentage. I usually change my oil with inconsistent percentage. Sometimes 15% or 30% and sometimes 20% but most commonly at 20%. My engine also looks good since I saw it when I did my valve adjustment. I'm using a new mobil oil filter and mobil clean 5000 semi synthetic oil(This oil is cheap and from my experience its good).

I have changed mine 6 times in 32000 miles and have used Mobile 1 or Royal Purple 5-20 until the last change before upping the boost to 10 PSI when I changed to Mobile1 10-30

I changed mine every 9,000km - 10,000km. Using Mobil 1 0W-40 and honda filter for each change.

here were the clearances:
#1 - I - .009 E - .010
#3 - I - .009 E - .007
#4 - I - .009 E - .011
#2 - I - .009 E - .008

I adjusted them to I - .006 E - .012

I did this because the Intake seemed to loosen up while the Exhaust seemed to tighten up.

also, I have had an oil analysis a while back:

Mobil 1 0w20 Advanced Fuel Economy

if you want your car to run the best then use Mobil 1 0w20 Advanced Fuel Economy. I have been using it for the past 2.5 years in my jazz and fit. Its the best oil ever. I drive 5000 miles before I change my oil. And I run my cars hard.
