09 WRX --> 12 Fit

Greetings Fit Freaks,

Making a big change this month, going from my history of Civic Si, Contour SVT, Passat W8, Evolution VIII, and my current 09 WRX 5door to.....2012 Fit Sport.

I work in the wine industry, I'm often driving around with a few cases in the car along with my 2 dogs, and the layout of the Fit made sense. Because of my cargo, I don't often have the opportunity to drive my WRX the way it was made to be driven, so I figured I would get something practical. I drove a 2010 Sport to see that I liked it, and while it does feel like someone stole half the motor, it was still quite enjoyable to drive. So, worked out a deal with a local dealership, put a deposit on a Silver 2012 Sport 5speed which should arrive late Oct / early Nov.

I also have a 1968 Datsun Roadster and a 1971 Datsun 240z to go play around with when there aren't dogs/wine as passengers, so those are now my "fun" cars.

So far from my brief reading, looks like I'll be making a swap to Silverstar bulbs, adjusting the beams up a touch, and that's about it. Sounds like the K&N Filter is a waste and the short ram one isn't allowed in CA (not that anyone would know), so I'll probably just keep it stock.

Cheers!

Welcome aboard d. Another Rex'er. I have an '02 Bug eye. I like your Datsun toys there. I had the opportunity to drive a Fairlady Z back in the days in Japan. Very nice.

Yes it'll be a bit of a change for you but still fun to go-cart around in. Definitely very versatile and practical. Enjoy your new ride when it comes!

nice stable of classics!

i lol'ed at the comment "feel like someone stole half the motor" but this is true. the fits are pretty fun to drive. it just feels like it's in slow motion...and keeps you in safe legal speeds.

Thanks...I do love my older cars. I'm planning to use my lower car payment to save up for another classic. Looking to import a 70-72 Skyline, but probably not for another year or so. I am certainly enjoying these in the meantime.

I think I'll enjoy the Fit on a practical level and make part of the driving "fun" achieving the best MPG possible.

Very nice d!!! Man I need a bib.... slurp.... That Z's pretty clean!!! Brings back memories... back in the days zipping around the narrow streets of Japan, and passing like you're parallel parking sideways... except the stick was on the left, fender side mirrors and a Solex 6-pack carb

That's a good one Ken. So true...

Once I get around to having the Z re-painted, I have a brand new set of fender mirrors. I've contemplated the triple Mikuni setup, but talked to a lot of people that loved the sound but didn't see much performance gain. About to move to a header, and the motor is a long rod 2.9L Rebello engine, makes a glorious noise as is.

I do have Mikuni carbs on the Roadster, still getting them dialed in, but they look/sound great.

Took a tad longer than expected, but the Fit has arrived. Headed over to pick it up this morning!

Awesome! I'm sure you'll love the handling, convenience and economy. Post pics of the new ride when you get a chance.

Sweet cars! I love seeing those old Datsuns-- brings back memories of one of our first cars- a 1972 Datsun 1200 in orange!
Similar to this one- except it seemed much brighter in color back then!

I agree with you. I've always wanted an Evo VIII and a WRX, but I wouldn't use it what it was meant to do (kind of like most Hummer owners). Having a fun car on the side is the best way to go.

First day, good times. Nice roomy feel inside, I really like the darker 2012 wheels on the silver. I still need to spend a little time getting the seat sorted out so it's more comfortable (liked those WRX seats, this is more upright).

So far I'm showing a tick over 42mpg and the dogs enjoy the back end.

One thing I didn't notice until today...those little slots on either side of the Ebrake, is it just a coincidence that they are perfect to drop a Blackberry/iPhone in, or is that what the were made for? I love not taking up a cupholder spot with a phone, not that I'm about to run out of cupholders in that car.

Stereo is fine, better than the stock WRX, it'll suit my needs. Need to see if I can get my iPod hooked up and working.

Overall, really like it so far. I'll get some pictures of it tomorrow, I bet it looks about like you expect.. I will have to add my "Japanese Nostalgic Car" sticker to it, both the Datsun's have them too.

Great to hear. The 2012 is the first Fit since the GD that has me excited. I love the darker wheels and new front. Lets see some pics

By the way, driving it last night, I think they have either made an adjustment on the 2012 headlight beam pattern or you guys just like to tinker with stuff. The stock setup projected plenty far down the road, I don't think any adjustments will be needed other than swapping to Silverstars. I'll have to read up on that again, sounds like you have to go in at the wheels well.
