Another new guy

I may be car shopping in a month or so. If so, I'm leaning significantly toward Honda with the Civic, CR-V and Fit being the three suspects, alphabetically. I'll likely be doing 10-12k miles annually and 98-99% of them as the sole occupant. I think the Fit is a really good looking little car. I just wish it got better mpg than the Civic instead of worse.

Welcome to the forum. The Fit's combined MPG is not bad I would say I average 33mpg. Highway depends on if I have a roof rack on the car, occupants and A/C running. I guess it depends on your needs, sedan, coupe, AWD, etc. good luck.

I do mostly highway driving. I drive from Cleveland, OH to Columbus, Oh twice a week and I average around 38-41mpg. This is me not driving the car hard. When I drive hard it is less but do not go off of the epa estimated mileage because it is dead wrong.

+1

I will get 38-40mpg if I drive lightly in freeway traffic on my 60 mile round-trip daily commute. This is 2010 base M/T. Any stop and go will reduce that to mid 30's.

Don't worry about the gas mileage. Yes, the Civic is very slightly better on the highway. I get routinely 38mpg if not using AC. You can decide if getting 41 is worth the lack of trunk space.

To be concerned with more is your comfort. I find the Fit .. OK. It was cheap, it has great seats, but the ride is exhausting. Some people HATE the seats so make sure that's not you

We have put about 7k miles on it the first year. I don't use it for commuting.

I think it's a great car. I wouldn't have considered the Civic sold last year; it might be more competitive now. I've also owned a CRV. It's comfy and a great value; but the overall $ amount is also higher.

Some cars may have a higher EPA rating for highway but combined there is few cars that bet the Fit when not considering hybrid or diesel.

Welcome to the forum. Hope to see that you decide on a Fit - great little car and so much fun to drive. I test drove a Civic but it did not put a smile on my face like the Fit did. Best of luck in whatever you decide to do.

Welcome. I just picked up a 2010 Fit this past weekend and love it. It handles very well for what it is compared to my previous Civic and Integra. I am already looking to order an armrest because I don't have anywhere to rest my arm between shifts.

LDB - so did you end up with the fit or?? ive had the 8thgen civic sedan myself. it was a comfy car and okay to carry people but not good at really anything. imho, the Fit is a better car overall as can actually DO things.
