Not Disappointed...

I, for one, am just cheeky about this thing!! FINALLY Honda is throwing us hatchback lovers a bone! so far the biggest gripe I have seen is the MPG thing. Think about this. Your driving is the biggest determining factor on MPG, and nobody drives like the EPA does. I've seen more than one post about folks not liking the EPA rating; citing that the Matrix of all things has good gas mileage. My brother's matrix only gets 23-27 on good days. He doesnt drive hard, either. My wife's Accord gets around 30 on the highway. She drives like a grandma. I get 22 on my '92 mitsu Expo LRV. Car and Driver says the scion twins get about 30 in the city and 35 on highway. Toyota posts numbers in the 38's on those cars. If MPG is your biggest concern, and you would not buy a Fit for that reason alone, then I must insist that you look at other REAL WORLD figures before you go bashing the Fit's ratings. Thanks!

I want to see it, sit in it, and drive it before I make up my mind. But it's definitely the frontrunner. It will replace my beat-ass 1992 Civic Hatch that my parents gave me. Not a bad car for a first time buyer.

Honda Fit is an excellent city car. Don't confuse it for a highway cruiser. This is a good car but the highway fuel economy disappoints to the point that I am forced to consider something else. I'm not pressed for parking space or city fuel economy. If the highway fuel economy is the same as a Corolla, Mazda3 or a Civic, then I will choose one of those.

If they had brought over the CVT7 with the IDSI engine I would buy it in a heard beat. But now I have to look elsewhere.

My thoughts exactly. I love the look, it's got the right MPG (or at least pretty good milage) and right price. I'm currently driving an xB (which I really like), but the 1998 Civic will be up for replacement soon.

I'm not disapppointed either. We're looking to buy one in orange for my wife when it arrives in dealers this April.

It's all OK, less hype and showroom traffic = better deals for the wife's future Fit.

...Or they discontinue it, then where would we be? They need to sell lots of these for us all to benefit in the long run.

I'm definitely buying a Fit as soon as possible.

How do you guys know what colours it's being offered in? And where can I see these colour choices?

I like it as well - 38 mpg and 5 mph bumpers included. Would I like the mileage to be higher - yes, but its not a deal breaker for me. In my 95 Accord EX 5MT, I regularly get 3-4 mpg ABOVE the EPA highway estimate - my car is quite broken in (208k miles) and I am conservative with my right foot...I can even squeak 32 mpg out of my S2000 (though I love VTEC at 9k rpm too much to get that very often). I suspect I could trump the EPA figures in the Fit as well. I love the magic seats and the small wagon body is exactly what I want. I probably won't get one when they first go on sale, but, whenever I decide to part with my Accord, it'll be at the top of my list. I'll definitely get the Sport 5MT, but color is still up in the air.....

Woodster: You're not ready to walk to a Hyundai dealer because you can't get a CVT-7? What's with this manual transmission crap. What, you like to think and shift for yourself? Heresy. It's almost as though you prefer driving a car and enjoying it a little instead of riding in an appliance while you check email on your Blackberry. Just don't get the Storm Silver metallic. That one has my name on it. Oh wait, with all the whinging about we didn't get this or that, and the mileage sucks, there should be plenty left over for us.

Count me in on one of the first Fit buyers as well. I've already talked my brother into buying my '02 Civic SI if necessary.

When I first started reading your post, I was a little confused (its early, not finished with my coffee yet), but then I laughed. I hate regular automatics, though I would consider a CVT (moreso for the neat-o factor and the ability to keep the engine at its optimal operating conditions) if I were regularly commuting in stop and go traffic. We have three cars, all with wonderful row-your-own Honda gearboxes.
I might not be so in love with MT if it weren't for the shift feel you get in most Hondas...I've driven MT cars from other manufacturers, and they're not a fun to drive. I hope the Fit, being a lower-cost car, doesn't have lousy shift feel. I don't know if the US spec car uses a carry-over tranny from other markets, but can anyone give any comments on 5MT shift feel in the Fit? I don't expect it to feel like my S2000, but I hope it isn't rubbery and vague like other econobox gearboxes.
BTW - I'll probably get white or blue.

It'll probably shift like an econobox, since it is an econobox.
