New Guy Looking to buy a FIT

Hey all, my car is on the verge of dying soon and looking to get a FIT. I go on mini roadtrips ~100 miles on the weekends and outdoor stuff like hiking, biking, visiting towns, etc...

Hoping to learn something about the fit like issues, tips and tricks, etc..

Pretty simple. 2018 or 2019. LX CVT. Basically using it for commuting purposes aka point A to B

Haven’t bought it yet. Will be going in to buy this Sunday. I’m thinking of asking 15k for a 2018 LX CVT probably 16,400 otd. Is this too low of an offer?

I live in in the north jersey/nyc area

Geez for that price, I'd start looking at a brand new LX CVT. I understand it'd be a little bit more, but at that point it's a brand new car with a 3 year warranty versus a 3 year old car getting close to out of warranty.

Did I miss it somewhere that he said used? I think he's looking at a leftover new '18, but I could be wrong?

If that's the case, I think you're about $1,500 - $2000 lower than a dealer will accept. There's not as much mark up in a base Fit as you'd think. Mark up is all in higher models and higher trim levels.

yea I’m buying a new leftover 2018 lx model. I came to that price due to the otd prices that people have posted. Also I figure that they would want to clear out the 2018 at this point.

It might be helpful to know what you are use to owning.

Obviously, I'm a Honda Fit owner, so I like the Honda Fit. It's fuel efficient, and I love the versatility of the interior, with the magic seats.
I also think it is perfectly serviceable for road trips. BUT...

It is a sub-compact automobile. Honda has done a "Fool Penn and Teller" wonderful job of designing an interior that casts a magic spell of making the Fit feel bigger than it actually is in reality. The huge windshield and the nearly forced perspective dash make it seem like you are sitting in a much larger automobile behind the wheel.

But if you are routinely going on 100 mile trips every weekend, determining how comfortable the Fit is for you? Is IMO really important. I think the magic seat configurations and the flat load floor of the Honda Fit give it amazing cargo capacity for a vehicle that is as small as it is, but once again, also making sure it will hold your camping/hiking gear would be important.

If long drive comfort checks out?
If the ability to hold your gear checks out?

Then I would without hesitation recommend a Honda Fit.

But if you have concerns with either of those issues or areas? Or others? It's a competitive segment. Their are good/great alternatives. And whatever you decide, you should probably allow yourself to investigate some other options.

And I say this, as someone who really likes their Honda Fit.
But I use PRIMARILY as an urban vehicle. Extended road trips are not as frequent.

My current car is a 2003 Hyundai tiburon GTV6 MT and I ride a 2008 CB600F. My wife isn’t very good with manual so I’m getting rid of the tiburon. Need a reliable car since I have bad experiences with auto repair shops. Would like a car that’s good on gas due to prices of gas in jersey getting out of hand. Also a very affordable car, the more affordable the more comfortable I will be when I’m driving it. I would even consider a pink hello kitty car if it means that it would be cheaper.. trust me I have no shame.

The Fit is all that. I was looking to get a commuter car that was inexpensive to own/maintain/insure and got really good gas mileage. It's done all that and has been very reliable. I have a 2015 so there were recalls and quality control issues, but nothing that left me stranded. I've now got almost 65K and other than oil/filter changes, a new set of tires and a CVT fluid change out, the car mechanically has been trouble free.
