2010 Sport Kenwood Install

Hey All,

Recently installed a Kenwood DMX9706s and ran into an issue. The wireless Apple Car Play will not work until I connect the VSS wire. On the back of the radio it's pink, but I cannot for the life of me figure out where I tap into to connect this wire! Can anyone help?

What is VSS? I am assuming it has something to do with the parking brake? If so, there should be a single wire leading from the parking brake that you should be able to tap in to. Have you tried performing a Google search?

It’s the vehicle speed sensor wire. When I attempt to drive with Apple car play, an error message saying the connection needs to be made pops up and will not allow wireless car play. I have found multiple links with people describing the same issue but cannot find a link or suggestion on how to fix it for a 2010 Fit.

If you're using the Metra 70-1729, it doesn't provide a wire to connect to for VSS. What you can do, if you don't have an external AMP, take out the blue wire in the harness and move it over two spaces (next to the red wire). If you are using an AMP, you'll need to buy/add a wire with pin that fits.

Or if you don't mind splicing into the factory wire (plus you're dexterous enough to do it since its cramp in there), you can splice a wire into the corresponding wire (remember to match to the empty spot on the Metra harness next to the red wire). Then use something like bullet connectors so that you can disconnect the adapter harness from the car if you need to.

thanks so much, a few things though before I start

do I need to connect the pink vss wire from the kenwood to the blue wire on the metra harness?

or do I just leave the blue wire from the kenwood connected to the blue wire of the metra and move it?

I’ve never moved a pin wire before, anything I need to know or be cautious of?

Moving a wire can vary in difficulty. Some plugs used in computers are easy (pinch the side of the pin and it practically pops itself out), while others are molded into the plug (can't be moved).

I moved the Illumination wire when I first installed my DNX9980HD, but that was 8 years ago, so I don't really remember how it went. At least its doable, since I did it.

If you've already connected the blue wire from the Kenwood, then its up to you.

- You can leave it for the future in case you add an external AMP. Then buy another wire to plug there and connect to the pink wire.

- Or you can cut it and move it if you don't plan on adding an AMP. THEN you can connect the pink wire from the Kenwood to the blue wire from the harness.

But you cannot leave the wire connected while moving it. Do not connect the pink wire from the Kenwood to the blue wire coming from the Kenwood.

Update

Finished the rewiring and install, worked like a charm. Ended up buying a new harness and stealing a wire from it. Thanks again for the help!
