I've got a Fujita F5 on the way and I figured while I have to bumper off for the install I might as well make the jump to HID. From what I've seen there seems to be 3 types of Bi-Xenon H4 kits.

1. An adjustable bulb that moves for hi-beam
2. A moving shield which performs the same function???
3. A dual filament bulb

Which type do most of you guys prefer? I'm more concerned about efficiency than bang for buck, and light scattering glare is what I'm most concerned about. Just trying to be considerate of my fellow motorists while adding to my own personal safety.

With the dual filament, do both stay lit when in hi-beam, in effect going super-nova to go farther down the road, or does the beam angle actually change?

On another note, with my bicycle HIDs there is a 10 sec. window required between shut-down and restart. Do these work the same way? Which would mean flashing others would be a thing of the past.

alright well....there are a couple types:

1) actuator style (the one i have). It's basically ONE hid bulb that is mounted on a moving base. When you hit the high beams, the electrical current goes to the motor and pulls the bulb back, thus aiming the light higher. check out my video on youtube so u can see how it works and how quickly the high beam function works.

I have also seen the same style but the hid gets pulled sideways.



2) There is another style, it's a little shield that when u put the high beams, the current sends a signal to a mechanical motor that pulls a special shield over the bulb that changes the light output design, thus aiming the beam higher. check out the pic below:



3) HI/Low hid's. This kit has 2 filaments, one is an HID and one is a H1 or H3 bulb. These are hooked up like a regular bulb where the balast goes to the hid portion of the bulb and the high beam hooks up to the regular filament bulb. I do not recommend these types because usually if the high beam burns out, you can't replace it and 2 the high beam is virtually useless because it is overpowered by the hid bulb. How do i know this u say? Well my 2005 nissan pathfinder has the hi/low kit (because they didn't have bi-xenon) so this was my only other option then losing my high beams.



4) bi-xenon with 2 HID FILAMENTS. This is 2 bulbs with 2 balasts PER SIDE so there is actually 2 hid's (some can power both hid's with one balast, tho it is not recommended). This is also useless because the HID needs time to warm up to full operating temperature, so when you use the high beam, you must wait till it becomes fully bright before using it.



All in all, i recommend the bi-xenon that either moves the SINGLE hid filament or a shield that is controlled by a mechanical motor.

Very informative post, Kev. Of course now I'm probably even more confused than ever, but that's hardly unusual.

I went to honda-tech and found that brand but the seller claims he only sells dual filament bi-xenons, not the solenoid type. I'm assuming that your's go in and out, low beam and hi respectively? I really couldn't tell from the you-tube vid about the range since you were 5 feet from the garage with the low-hi demo. Do they get brighter on high, or just go further down the road? In which case it would seem to lose a bit of intensity, especially close to the vehicle.

 

oh no the video it to show how the actuators work. Lemme tell u, when i flash my high beams i see EVERYTHING! Man i swear it basically takes the aim off the ground and throws it in the sky! It's amazing how much light the kit puts out. U don't lose any intensity nor does it get brighter, the focus of the light pattern is aimed upwards rather then on the ground.

Anyways, thats wierd that the seller doesn't have the solenoid type.

Check around cuz i know there a couple sellers on there that have the techone kit.

that's the one i got em from but the name changed. Email him for the bi-xenon kit and make sure it's an actuator style bulb.

 

did you guys notice that the price of HID kits on ebay is falling big time?
now you can get one set under $99 shipped...
Should i wait for little more for better deal?

 

If I'm not mistaken the $99 price is for ONE, not a set. At least that's how I've interpreted them to be. Read the fine print. Always.

 

well actually the prices yeah they have gone down. U just gotta be careful cuz some say "replacement bulbs," usually they won't sell just one side.. Anyways some of those kits, i'd be skeptical to buy cuz of the quality, u get what u pay for.

As for ebay hid's, the seller that i have bought over 10 sets of hid's (i install em locally for my friends) is....

These are very high quality kits, built to last, super easy 2 install with actual connectors (not pins that go into the stock housing) and have the quickest shipping. All the sets i have purchased, i have had not ONE complaint or problem with them. The only thign is i have only purchased single filaments, i havn't done any dual or bi-xenon kits from him. I would recommnend him tho.

I was wondering if any of you tried to order HID kits from this site Philips HID,Philips Visionplus,Philips BlueVision,Philips DiamondVision, Philips Power2night and GE HID,GE Megalightplus, GE Euroblue sold by the industry experts. I currently have EAGLE 6000K HID kit (dual filament), unfortunately i think there is something wrong with the ballast. The light sometimes goes out and flicker. Is there anything i can do to remedy this problem? I'm thinking of ordering from the aforementioned site to solve my problem. Any feedback from you guys would be very much appreciated.

 

check ALL your connections before going and buying another hid kit that means the one that plug into the car and the bulb to the balast cuz sometiems its just loose. The website has some nice stuff but again i havn't purchased from them b4 so i dont know.

 

kevin..what temp of K you gots? any pics? im thinkin of replacing my bi-xenon bulbs for another brand since mine seem to be lighting up less. I know its common from a HID bulb to gain more color and give less output but these dont got a year yet and not even close to it. thnx
