Brighter Reverse Lights?

Here's my dilemma: I leave the house for work while it's still dark out. My driveway is over 70 yards in length, is uphill and curves (right, then a meandering left). To make matters worse, my neighborhood is dark, I have dark tint and my mailbox is right next to the driveway (which I've almost hit on many occasions). I always tend to veer offcourse in the other direction and end up driving on my poor neighbor's lawn.

I've been researching brighter reverse lights. But the only solution I've come up with so far is to mount a fog light in the back window, pointing backwards. I'm not sure if that is legal, though. And I haven't seen any LED bulbs that look any brighter than the stock reverse bulbs.

Does anyone have any ideas?

And NO rolling down my windows doesn't work well due to the curvature of the driveway; I need to see out the back window.

Some guy on here upgraded his reverse bulbs, to some super bright PIAA ones and they looked really bright.

From experience, LED bulbs will NOT be brighter than incandescent bulbs.

Maybe try a higher wattage bulb?

The stock reverse bulb (7440) is listed as 21 Watts.
The PIAA bulbs you pointed to are listed as 27 Watts.

That doesn't seem like it would be much of a difference... Of course maybe I'm just thinking out household (120V) lights.

In my car (12.7 volts)... I suppose it would draw 2.126 amps vs. 1.628 amps, which is quite a bit more current.

Does anyone know where to find the lumens figure for each of the bulbs? The photos in the above link showed they did look brighter, but a picture is hard to tell unless the same aperture and shutter speed were used.

Thanks for the help.

That would look awesome! Any pics?

I actually purchased fog lights tonight from Wal*mart for $14. I think I'm going to mount them on either side of the 3rd brake light on Saturday. I'll post pics.

What about a aftermarket foglight mounted on the back or install lighting by your driveway motion activated or solar ?
