painting taillights
has anybody taken apart the usdm taillights and painted the silver inside black? i was thinking of trying this, i think it would look good on the nhbp, or maybe just painting the outside with a smoked clear.

what do mean, are you just getting the smoked jdm tails, or are you going to paint the jdm tails?

are you planning on opening the light and painting the housing or just the outside with smoked clear, post some pics when finished.

Yes, I will be opening the tails and painting the housing NBP to match my paint. I will post pics as soon as I finish.

I purchased the tails today from JHPUsa and a spray can from PaintScratch.com. I will pick up the rest of the stuff from local auto parts stores. I should have everything by next Friday and then I will paint over the weekend.

I found this in the Sticky: LED tailights, install, convert, DIYs thread. This sounds like what you are looking for.

that sucks so i guess they are not as easy as the headlights to take apart, did you heat them first in the oven or with a heat gun. im not sure if you read the thread on painting the headlights and how to seperate them. but yes those last tails you posted are what i want. i may just spray a smoked film on them, i dont know, i really would like an extra set of us oem ones to mess with first.

Heh. Sounds like a plan.
I must say that I am very disappointed with the quality of the housing material on these tails. I didn't force anything or try to do anything that should have crack this, but voila! It cracked anyway. Do you think this will cause a problem when heating them in the oven or taking them apart?
