I quit!

Well, I am officially giving up on this project. I baked the tails and snapped off a corner piece trying to separate them. Again, using almost no pressure. I have failed miserably and will be selling the tails if anyone wants them.

where did they break this time, the lens or the housing, if its just the housing fix them and install them or spray them with smoked clear, but if you are really are giving up, pm me on what you want for the lights and maybe a new picture of the new damage, if the lens is not damaged i may take them off your hands. i would be willing to drive to get them as well.

I am going to make mine similar to that. We'll see how it comes out.

I agree, they look like the stock USDM painted and tinted.......easy to do pending tail light lens separation....

Can anyone tell if its just the outer ring left unpainted? Or was the reflector around the bulbs painted too?

ive studied this pic for a while and i think its only painted on the inside of the housing, no tint on the lens, see how clear it is in the middle, the black housing is giving it a tinted look, and its only the rings left silver.

I pulled the tails tonight to paint them.....will post a DIY when I am finished...hopefully in the morning

I'm not sure if I will paint everything except fof the outer rings, or the inner reflector as well, I'll see how it looks without the inner reflector painted before I go any further

I say keep the reflector unpainted. It's there for a reason.

Good point, but the ones in that picture look painted, right?

BTW, smeister, I finished the retrofit tonight, thanks to your DIY! I'll post pics after I wash her tomorrow.

From that angle it does look painted, but if I painted my taillights I would not paint the reflector. You can probably get some bright LED bulb to compenstate painting the reflector though.

Cool! I am looking forward to seeing it.

I am not tinting the lens because my car is red and I don't think that will look right. According to the picture up above, this looks best on a black car!

Heres the DIY
