H9 for H11 Foglight Swap?
H9 for H11 Foglight Swap?
Has anybody swapped the stock H11 foglight bulbs with H9 bulbs? The H9 is 2100 lumens compared to the H11's 1350 lumens. I'd love to get some extra light out of the fogs, especially out to the sides. Deer season is coming up shortly...
And I don't want to go HID since the cops around here are not chill with HID swaps...

Okay, still trying to decide why I think there's a better solution.
But for now, the best I can come up with...
While fog lamps provide light to the side, it's not intended as a primary light source... that's your low beam (and sometimes high beam). I bring this up, because fogs aren't designed to project light very far forward. And while light to your side might help in slow(er) situations, you are most likely going fast enough that you don't have the reaction time fog lamps provide.
As far as I am concerned, people really should only be "needing" the fog lamps in an actual fog, and rain/snow (blizzard!). In these cases, the fog/rain/blizzard snow are preventing the low beam from projecting forward enough to reflect of the ground and other surfaces, because much of it is being reflected by the fog/rain/snow right back at you. Flipping on highs at this point is asking to crash, since it only magnifies the reflection off the "wall." The fog lamp is already lower to the ground so there's slightly less to cut through and is angled better to not blind you by directly reflecting at you due to the fog, etc.
If you need more forward light, adjust the aim of the low beam slightly up and put some brighter bulbs. I feel the factory aim of the head lights is a little low, just make sure the cutoff isn't too high (the cutoff is supposed to slowly go down the further it is from you). The low beam "pattern" is actually supposed to spread sideways quite a bit as it goes forward, so it'll be a better "early warning" than fogs. Sylvania Silverstars are pretty bright and the Ultras are brighter, but tend to burn out faster.
If there's no fog and you're driving through dark, mostly wooded areas and no oncoming cars, flip on your highs... much better solution.
