Bought this one off ebay, it's taken from a Honda Pilot. I soldered a connector.
ps. it's a b!tch to solder wires in that tiny space, get a connector if you can.

Got it cut like this. Mine didn't come with a bracket, so I use wood

So here's the trick to make it fit: I use two foam blocks to push the headliner out a bit, on mine it's pushed out by roughly 5mm. Just enough so that there's no gap between the unit and the headliner.

I didn't want to mess with the dome light wires, so I made myself some wire connectors, these are very common molex 4pin connectors found in computers.

I hooked the wires up like this, wire is clipped with the light bulb. If you do it this way, by switching the dome light to ON it will also turn on your map light! If you don't like that behaviour then just tap into the dome light wires.
Red - 12V
Black - Gnd
Yellow - Door switched Gnd
the black plastic behind is the molex connector

Now put everything back together... Done!

Great work looks awesome.
and everyone said it didn't fit. PFFF.
+rep to you sir.

Thanks, I was actually planning to cut the bulky part off
but turns out it'll fit with a small adjustment.

I'm glad I'm not the only who used wood since they didn't have a bracket. Gorilla Glue & Wood worked great on mine. What glue did you use?

Steve.

That is totally sweet!!!!!!!!!! Wish I would have tried it with the sunglass compartment, would have love to have the compartment to put things in. Way to strike out on your own, no matter what the naysayers say!!

I'll have to see about picking some of that up. That would definitely be quicker than waiting on the Gorilla glue to dry.

I sourced two from eBay, but if you saw some of the recent posts you'll notice the one with the sunglass holder possibly fits too...

I just received my map light w/ homelink and sunglass holder (from 00 odyssey) and the connections on the back only has two prongs (missing the middle prong). I am guessing that I can only wire it without the door switch. Does anyone know which prong is pos and neg?

anybody else have issues programming homelink

i haven't permanently installed anything yet, just running 12v to the console to test the lights and the homelink buttons and it appears EVERYTHING is working properly....

When i hold the buttons they flash and I press my garage remote and it starts flashing rapidly and locks on in about 3-4 seconds.

then when i try to press it again it seems to have reset.

i might have gotten it to work once...but that's it.

I pulled a maplight/sunglasses console from an elantra last week at the junkyard when i was picking up some extra parts for my girlfriend, and then i found out that i could do the same thing and have homelink.

went to the junkyard today and only found a 99 CL without the glasses holder and bought it anyway...and thats the one i'm trying to get to work.

if I can't figure it out I'll cut the hole for the elantra one to go in...maybe someday upgrade to a homelink w/ sunglasses from an 02 CL or a mid 2000s TSX/accord/odyssey.

any tips from anybody?

These photos got me thinking (often dangerous): Would there be any noise insulation benefit to removing the overhead light, and shooting some "Great Stuff" urethane foam between the head liner and the roof? There is obviously quite a bit of empty space there. Not the entire thing, just the area immediately around the overhead light. I'm thinking this might dampen roof vibration a little, as the metal is pretty thin and noisy in a rain storm. Possible down side: urethane foam expands a lot as it cures, and could deform the head liner. It would also bond the headliner to the roof, which might introduce sound conduction issues. Maybe just fill that area with a bunch of styrofoam beads... Then I would be faced with the challenge of getting the styrofoam beads off the Fit upholstery.

Has anybody installed an older 1997 3.0L CL(?) version like this one?
Once I get the blood off of it I will see if I can install it.

The homelink versions are hard to find at my local pick and pulls.

So I found 2 of the maplight/home link units at the junk yard this past weekend (2000 Accord) as well as a map light/door light set up from a 1998 Acura 3.5L.

I hope to install a home link unit sometime soon.
