auto door lock

has anyone been able to mod the factory SPORT power door lock to automatically lock when you start to drive forward?
Our blazer does this automatically. On another car I had that did not I was able to request the dealer to re-program it (for Free) to lock when the vehicle hit 15mph?

thanks

mike

I too would like to know this. Furthermore, I would like to know if there is an auto-unlock?? I know the newer Civic SI's have this, not sure about the EX civics, but there is a way to set this up on the car using the key ignition I believe. So is this possible on the fit? Any ideas? Thanks

My CRaVe locks when the ignition is turned on and unlocks when you turn off the car. For a new car like the fit, i thought it would be standard.

Here is a link to an aftermarket device that works on the driver seat belt. When you put on the seat belt all doors will lock, and when you take the seat belt off all doors will unlock. Not much detail on the web page on installation.

My thoughts too, like I said the newer Civics have this as well and my old car alarm even had this feature. Very convenient.

I have to take my car in to the dealer on Monday so I can ask then, but it shouldn't be hard to do(?).

On a side note, my Alpine alarm on my Integra locks all of the doors 30 seconds after the car is started and unlocks them when the car is shut off. I love it except for the one time that I had to run inside real quick after I had started the car and when I came out my car doors were lock and the car was running. Doh!

yeah my bro's viper alarm did the same as well, but it locked when switched to on position, so never had an issue of car locking. Unlocked when igntion off. Good stuff, Fit needs this!

Yeah, so I forgot to ask the dude about the auto lock. I was too pissed that I have to take my car to the body shop to have the rear bumper re-sprayed because of a scratch that was on the car before I bought it.

I have an 07 Civic EX and I can confirm that my locks automatically lock when I hit 14 km/h. The driver side also unlocks when I shut the car off.

I was thinking about this more, I'm sure you can set up a small circuit that send a pulse to the door lock with the ignition in the on position and then when its off you unlock. You can wire it into the ignition sense wire.

My alarm has this function.

It locks roughly around 20 seconds after switching on the ignition, and unlocks when its switched off.

However there is a flaw. Mum used the car once and it was a frosty day. She switched the engine on and closed the door to go back in the house to get something. Yup, you guessed it, alarm locked the door and the engine was still running.

Although my alarm does have the ability to be hooked up to the speedo so once 5mph is reached, the doors lock.

any word on this? I'd really like to have this feature, but I don't want to have to install an aftermarket alarm to get it. I like the stock alarm just fine.

Maybe you could make some timing module? Or buy one of those auto lock modules and hook it up to the factory alarm?

Car Security / Door Locks - Multiple Wire Systems, Add Auto Lock/Unlock

this link gets us somewhat closer....talks about adding auto door lock to a keyless entry. hmm

I'm actually more interested in the auto unlock hmm. Looks easy enough. ANyone know if there's a direct unlock output switch?

Two of my previous vehicles did this automatically. Once you reach a certain speed, it will lock the doors. On the first car I actually had the dealer deactivate this feature (quick ECU reprogram on that car) because I found it annoying since I was carpooling at the time. Plus I always felt that in an event of an accident, no one can open the door to help you get out without breaking a window. (hindsight: but then, in that case, you're car's probably already wrecked, who cares about another broken window.)

On the Fit, my alarm system now has this feature, which locks the doors automatically when the ignition is turned on, and unlocks when the ignition is turned off (no time delay, probably better at preventing locking yourself out). I still find it annoying at times, like when I get in the car and start it while the wife puts the shopping cart away, only to find the door locked when she gets back. But since the wife and I share this car, I feel safer having this feature active when she's driving by herself.

But it should be a fairly simple thing to add. And the diagram on "the12volt.com" should help a lot. The wires you need (ignition on, door lock, door trigger, and a 12V source) should all be fairly easy to find. That's basically all these aftermarket alarm systems have, is an extra relay controlling the door locks.

I'll check my helms later maybe to see if I can help locate these wires for those interested in doing this mod.

j5ive, that would be great to locate the door lock/unlock wires. I'll check the fuse box area. Thanks to you and leonine, I was able to do the independent fog light trick =) and have wires hooked up to my ignition spot in 24 I believe it is. I can always add another I suppose for the auto unlock feature. Keep us updated on the wiring! I am very interested in doing this mod.

as for your alarm, I think if you have your door open, or any door for that matter open when you turn the car to ignition, it won't lock. I kept that in mind when I knew my gf was coming but I was starting the car ahead of time. The doors wouldn't lock if I just kept mine open while waiting for her to get into the vehicle.
