In retrospect, something solid might be a good idea from a bass perspective as it would stiffen the speaker's "box."

On the other hand, the door is such an large enclosure for a 6.5" speaker that they are probably running pretty much "free air" from a tuning perspective, so having a passive radiator made of RAAMmat probably doesn't change things much.

just finished doing left-front door. ughh! what a bear. i work really slow. its much quieter. not as much wind noise. kinda seems like im deaf in my left ear. may finish up next weekend.

heres a pic of the inside w/ raammat & ensolite is selective spots--primarily behind the speakers & some other spots. u cant see it here, but i put plastic loom on the door lock mechanism, door handl mech, & various wires (see red circles). also put more electical tape on some of the wires.:

i covered the large hole w/ some aluminum flashing from home depot. used 3 self-tapping (#6x1/2") metal flat-head screws to bolt in the flashing.

also, because the large hole was covered, i had to cut a plastic piece from the door trim. this piece normally fit into the large opening. i didnt take a pic of my door , but heres smiesters door w/ the plastic piece circled in red.

heres a pick of the final step. i used the original plastic cover to as a template for the ensolite.

only problem is i applied raammat too far to the seft---they stick out when the door panel was replaced. i just need to cut it w/ utility knife & clean it up. other than that...its done.

So what do you benefit from putting on these? If I put this on my trunk area would the noise coming from my exhaust be not as loud?

for me, i just wanted a quieter interior environment...reduced external traffic noise...plus reduced tire, exhaust & engine noise. i can still hear stuff from the outside but its becoming less & less noticeable.

also, i understand sound deadening will enhance your sound system--making bass more responsive, mid & highs more clear & defined. (I quoted that last part from Sound Deadener Showdown) i kind of notice this w/ the just 1st door sound deadened. i really want to see what the stock sound system will sound like once all other doors are finished.

so far, i like the results. it just a lot of work though..for me anyways. like i said, im a slow worker.

Interesting tidbit for you guys... I managed to soundproof one side of the hatch area but not the other (I ran out of RAAMmat). I finally had a rear seat passenger last weekend and I told him that only one side had been done and to try to identify which side.

I hadn't even left the parking lot and he told me "definitely THIS side!"

No ensolite... I just crammed-in as much fiberglass as possible into every free space I could find. The area behind the wheel-well will take a lot if you keep cramming it in there.

Yes, pretty much. I got as much in there as possible with the whole side panel removed, then I replaced the panel and did the final stuffing through the access panel in your pic. I went slow and got glass in every crevice I could reach.

thanks! i previously stuffed carpet padding (from walmart) in that area too...it really cut down the noise. i took it out when i put the raammat & ensolite. im gonna put some back in there just for a bit more noise dampening. wont pull the panels though...just gonna stuff, stuff & stuff

What would I need to just do the truck area and how much would it cost me? I don't mind the cabin sound at high speed but I still want to lower it as much as possible. Doesn't need to reduce the sound to zero just low. Thanks.

heres some of the links & posts that helped me out:

1. this post by applemac#fit had some quick & easy ways to reduce noise in the cargo area. [https://www.fitfreak.net/forums/fit-...ml#post190728]

as per the post, i ended up getting carpet batting & stuffing it in the wheel well & in the rear panel...it really worked!...and its not expensive. i got 2 bags of batting. i had some left over so just layed it over my spare tire.

2. the 2nd post i read was this very thread (thanks smeister). smeister also mentioned this thread by invisible21 which was helpful as well. [https://www.fitfreak.net/forums/fit-...stem-pics.html]

3. after deciding to do more deadening...i had to decide which sd material to choose. this site sold me on butyl based material. [Sound Deadener Showdown]

4. i decided to go w/ raammat. its a bit more expensive than edead, but not the most expensive. u could go w/ others if u like. up to u. i ordered 1 roll of raammat, 4 yards of ensolite, & 2 cans of adhesive. it came out to $260 (including shipping to hawaii). i did the cargo area & 1 door so far. i hope its enough for 3 more doors. i ordered my stuff from here [RAAMaudio - Quality and Value in Automotive Sound Deadening]

good luck w/ ur sound deadening.

Thanks man ! I think I'm gonna stick with carpet padding and pillow stuffing.

sorry to hear that. i know what u mean. i had a tough time finding it too. i finally found it by the sewing stuff. sorry, dont think the description of the 'batting' was specific enough. heres the product info:

Company = Fair Field
Product description = Poly-Fil; Extra loft batting
dimensions = full-size 81x96 inch
misc = fire retardant

i bought 2 bags...but ended up only used 1 bag. some folks have used more...just depends how much u stuff in the rear wheel & rear panels. good luck again.

heres a picture of it from a link [Fairfield: cotton batting, polyester batting, quilt, quilts, free quilt patterns, quilting, quilting patterns, Free Quilt Patterns, quilt patterns, free quilting, baby quilts].
