A few questions~

Ok so my friend has a 12" subwoofer and amp ready for me, and I picked my Honda Jazz up this afternoon!

Forgive me for being a complete noob. However . . . I'm told that I have to take my current headunit out and replace it with a new one in order to take advantage of my sub.
That, or buy a converter, which I don't have a clue about, and any detrimental affects it has upon the car But this enables me to keep my stock headunit right?
Apparantly the converter doesn't come cheap. It would also mess my headunit up =S? Anyone have any idea? I had a look at the sticky thread but there wasn't much there that could answer my basic questions.

Also, under here on page 4, there's a "Honda Subwoofer" which looks quite interesting. Does anyone have one or know anyone who has one?

Scrap the question about the Honda Subwoofer, that's a bit of a rip-off x.x

You have the option of doing either. You can either replace the stock head unit to take advantage of things like in-dash navigation or video. That, or you can keep the stock head unit and just add a sub and amp. The most common way to add just a sub and amplifier is to tap into the signal going to one of the rear speakers by splicing into the speaker wires and running those to the amp. Either way it's somewhat of an involved process, but (if installed properly) neither should do any damage to your car or the wiring.

It depends on what kind of amp you have. If the amp has speaker line inputs, you just tap into a current speaker pair (or two) and run it directly to the amp. If it only has line level inputs, you need to buy a line out converter, tap into the speaker lines, run that to the converter, and then run rca cables from the converter to the amp. They're pretty cheap... like $25 US - whatever that means in quid.

You'll have to run a line for the power from your battery to the amp, and tap into the remote start line behind the headunit and run that to the amp too either way.

As said above, neither option will damage your system.

Yea, I was meaning if it has speaker level inputs. I don't know why I neglected to add line level inputs into my answer, so thanks Joe D for clarifying. Also don't know why I completely forgot to mention tapping the remote start line.

The involved part is going to be running the power wire from the battery to the amp...being that you'll have to go through the firewall. Of course, splicing into the speaker wire or remote start wire would be pretty involved too if you don't know what you're doing...

Basically, have a shop do it for you...it's easier, less headache, and usually guaranteed. Besides, it's nice to just be able to pick it up, hop in, and go...not having to worry about how everything happened.
