Hey Guys,
I just wanted to say that i ordered this kit and am totally satisfied with it. Getting the shifter assembly off was an absolute nightmare. All i can say is to have all the necessary tools and life will be so much easier. If you can get one of those flat head screwdrivers that are like mini pry bars (flat head with a slight curve to the head) it will make pulling up the metal plate and plastic shifter ball easier.

Initially i had some fitment issues with my adapter and left a message friday (after work) with h-fit not only did i get a call that night; i was able to meet up the next day to get everything taken care of. The guy from hfit showed up with all parts and a rubber mallet. BOOM taken care of. Customer service is exemplary A+ and would recommend to anyone.

*review*
The shift is definitely shorter and tighter. Its now a short flick of the wrist to shift and everything clicks into gear. I don't feel like im rowing my car in traffic anymore..

I received my kit today and plan to install it Friday. I would appreciate more detail on the "fitment issues". I am sure H-Fit will be helpful, but doubt they will run right over to my house.

For all that have installed this, did you use a torque wrench to get to the recommended torque setting, or did you tighten by hand?

The minimum my torque wrench will do is 20inch/pound, and H-Fit recommends 10 inches/pound, so just curious what everyone's done. I don't even know where to find a torque wrench that goes so low.

Thanks!

I finished installing my H-Fit short shift kit for the second time yesterday. I am very happy with the feel. The shifts are short and notchy.

When I installed it the first time something was not right. It would just barely go over the thick part of the shaft above the ball. The set screws went in so far I was sure that they were locking on the skinny part of the shaft above the ball. When trying it out, it just didn't feel right. There was a lot more shifting force required than I thought there should be, and the shifts were just not smooth. I suspected that maybe there was more variation in shaft size than H-Fit counted on. I know why they wanted a tight fit.

I e-mailed them and got a response in a day that they had measured some and they ranged from .510 to .514. They had used .510 as their model. (Mine measures .512). They sent me a new adapter and it fits right this time. I thought I would have trouble getting the set screws out, but they were OK. The big pain was getting the teflon ball socket off. The adapter is larger in diameter and that caused problems. The electrical tape over needlenose pliers was not real successful. On the good side, the set screws left 4 very good looking dimples on the shaft. It should stay put.

Beyond that it went back together easily. Its amazing the difference. The new piece went on 5mm further than the original. Now it feels great.

Don't hesitate to contact H-Fit if you have problems. They are very responsive. The shifter shaft is the same diameter above and below the ball, so you can mike it without taking things apart.

Mine came last night. Simple install... took about 30 min, doing it in the dark w/ a flashlight. Feels GREAT... makes an already exceptional shifter nearly perfect.

I'm getting all my goodies this coming spring but the one question I have regarding the short-shifter is this; is it going to cause any problems down the road on the transmission or any other components? Will it void warranty?

Shouldn't cause any problems (transmission or warranty)
that being said...
in theory, if you make the throw short enough, you could actually shift too fast for the syncronizers, which could cause transmission problems
and dealerships can (if they want) be a complete pain in the @@$ about warranty stuff.

Just did the H-Fit SS mod this morning.

Some observations...

- To remove the clip from cable A, I clamped the middle of the clip with a vise-grip and pulled it up and out... You need to clamp right in the middle where there is a gap in the shifter base assembly or otherwise you're pulling on the plastic base too. Just feel behind the top of the clip and you'll see there's a gap where you can clamp just the clip. It came out very easily.

- The teflon cup was hard to remove from the shifter ball and went on the H-Fit ball very snug. It was very hard to move on the aftermarket ball joint even when extra lithium grease was applied. However, with the leverage of the shifter, the friction seems not to be a problem.

- It's really easy to break the parking brake cable cover (Honda part # 83442-SAA). I also broke the little clips holding the main shifter cover. These are the first two clips you're supposed to remove. Anyone know the part# for them?

- Make sure the 12 mm bolts are tight after re-assembly! Otherwise shift will feel loose and light.

- Shifter does feel shorter and notchier. Maybe this would improve more if combined with a weighted shift knob.
