I've been thinking about getting a gps system and I was wondering which gps is good. I only need a simple gps just to find directions/etc because I use my fit to deliver stuff as part-time job and got lost couple times.

I found this site GPS Review : GPS Reviews extremely helpful when deciding which unit to buy for my wife.
She is so non-tech that it had to be super-simple to learn and to use. I bought her the Garmin nuvi 350 and she loves it.
There are many good models out there but there is also some crap. So do some research and shop around so you don't waste your money!

I recently picked up a Garmin 530c from Cabela's for 199.00

I love this thing. It is very user friendly. Very accurate. Not sure if Cabela's has it at that price still.

It is a discontinued model so they may still if you check out their website. It has the option to fix it to the dash by a dash plate that you attach the suction cup to or you can simply suction it to the windshield.

 

I have had a quest II by garmin for years and love it. just got a Nuvi 200 for my daughter for $169 at B Buy and it is awesome!!!

 

I use to work for TomTom and I would recommend them to people who do not need support for GPS devices. They do have a really good product, but I know that the Customer Service Circus is poor in the U.S.

Plus, TomTom acquired the map company it was working with. So, now they offer maps that you can make minor corrections on.

Here's mine. Garmin NUVI 200. Very happy with it. Super easy to use. Picked it up a month ago.

 

I got a Garmin Nuvi 660 this past summer. It's pretty cool and the price just dropped last month. It used to be $700-$800 bucks. Around black Friday I saw some deals at $399, but I think average is about $500ish. Its over budget from what you are looking for, but if you are willing to stretch a bit...

 

how's the garmin nuvi 200? are the maps accurate? I think I'm going to buy the nuvi 200 it was on sale at circuit city for 199$

 

The maps are pretty accurate. If you have any problems with it they always have updates that they release for new streets, maps, etc. It also has an expandable SD card slot for additional maps. Here's a link for more info. Hope this helps.

I just got my garmin nuvi 350, mounted in the same position as scarygoldlion. (I think this little window was designed for something mounted with a suction cup! not really, but it is perfect for one) I thought it would kindof a toy, but now I swear by it.

What I thought would be useless but is great:
Accurate points of interest. This makes it easy to quickly change destinations without typing in addresses. ....and I never thought I would use it to find food or gas, but I actually do (and have tried a bunch of new restaurants

What I thought would be vital but is merely useful:
text to speech: (GPS reads the name of the street: "turn left on fifth" instead of "turn left at the next intersection"

I wish I had waited and got one of the widescreen models, but I'm happy with mine (I don't know if I'd worry about bluetooth)

I hear some GPS units have a "last position" feature, to mark where you parked, I think that would be useful.

Bought a TomTom XLS for 300 bucks, not bad if you have internet connection on your phone with bluetooth. It's able to receive traffic reports.

 

Congratulations. You can buy the Traffic Receiver on TomTom's website for $129.95. I'd check e*** first though.

 

I bought a tom tom one for my job. It's pretty easy to use and the display is top notch.

 

I've had a Garmin Nuvi 360 for about a year, and I would recommend a Garmin to any friends. The software is easy to use and if you get one of the higher end versions like mine, it speaks the street names, which is VERY nice. Some of the higher end versions have bluetooth as well which can connect to your phone for hands free calling.

 

I picked up a Garmin Nuvi 200w (widescreen) at Best Buy for $250... it's amazing. My father and friend both have a Magellan and neither really like it anymore. I tried a Tom Tom in store at Best Buy and aside from the maps looking like a 2y/o drew them, the interface just seemed so plain and yet confusing at the same time. The Garmin is very intuitive, the maps look beutiful in 3d and you can download different 3d cars to represent yours from the Garmin website for free. If you want to save some money get a Tom Tom, but for the prices they're going now the extra cost for a Garmin Nuvi 200 and 200w is well worth it.


Unrelated: What is everyone who is attaching it to the corner window with the wire? I stuck it over there but the wire got in the way and looked like I wouldn't have enough if I tried to hide it under the dash. Right now I've got mine mounted on the dash right about the radio with the little stick-anywhere mount that came with the Garmin, but I originally wanted it in the window.

 

I know I posted before, I still like the Garmin nuvi a lot. The problem is that there are so many models, it can be difficult to figure out the differences. Here is a table that outlines the differences between models.

Used my Street Pilot 530c last weekend driving from Spokane to Portland and it was very accurate. Estimated my time to within 1 minute of my actual arrival at my destination.

This was my first real test with it and as I was before and still am very impressed. Was very useful for navagating around Portland as well.

Its screen is nice and clear and automatically senses a change in daylight and switches between whitelit and blacklit display depending on daylight or lack there of. It is very audible even with my techno beats blaring throughout the trip.
